- However, I wonder if author wasn't confused. Our Allen died in 1865, long before writer was born (1886). Allen C. Johnson married one of Meshack's daughters (Alice) who wasn't mentioned in article. Author might have assumed "Uncle Allen" was son of Meshack instead of son in law. That would mean our Allen W. Johnson not part of this family. That tracks with 1830 and 1840 census analysis that leaves no room for our Allen.;
