I (Marty Grant) am not related to the Benjamin Grant family as far as I know. I am very interested in him though. He lived in the same county as my ancestors, but doesn't seem to be related to them.
Benjamin F. Grant was born ca 1809/10 in SC, probably in Fairfield District. He entered 300 acres of land in Rutherford Co, NC on Camp Creek on 8 Dec 1828 joining the state line. I'm reasonably sure he is a son of Randall Grant and Sarah Grant, but have no direct evidence, though Randall seems the only choice. He seemed to be at home with Randall in 1820 and 1830 census. He obtained a marriage bond on 8 June 1834 to marry Tilatha Dyer. Robert Goode was the bondsman. Benjamin was listed as a voter on the 1835 Congressional Elections, in Rutherford Co, NC in High Shoals Precinct.
Benjamin was listed on the 1840 census in Rutherford Co, NC near his father:

For some reason, Benjamin was listed twice on the 1850 census in Rutherford Co, NC, both times in High Shoal district:

I guess to make up for being listed twice in 1850, he wasn't listed at all in 1860! Apparently his wife Tilatha died before 1859, perhaps in child birth with their last child born ca 1853. On 19 Oct 1859, in Rutherford Co, NC, Benjamin married Mary Jenkins. He was listed as "B.F. Grant" and the bondsman was J.L. Carpenter, and the marriage was performed by J.H. Carpenter, JP. I didn't find anyone named Mary Jenkins on the 1850 census who could be the same person, except for a Mary, who was wife of Samuel Jenkins, and lived just one household from Benjamin in 1850. If that is the same Mary, then her husband Samuel Jenkins must have died ca 1850-1859.
Although they weren't listed in 1860, I did find Mary listed in 1870. Apparently Benjamin had died in the 1860-1870 timeframe. She was listed in High Shoal Township of Rutherford Co, NC in 1870 as head of household with her step children with her.

I didn't find her in 1880.
Benjamin F. Grant and Telitha Dyer had four children, proven by the census. It doesn't seem that Benjamin and Mary had any children together.
Mira L. Grant was born ca 1834/35 in Rutherford Co, NC presumably in High Shoals Township. She was listed on the 1850 census with her parents, in both their listings. In the first listing she was "Mira" age 15, and the second "M.L." age 15. At least her ages agree in both listings. She wasn't found on the 1860 census. In 1870 she was listed in Rutherford with her step-mother Mary Jenkins Grant, and listed as "Mary S. Grant" age 24. I'm not entirely sure that is the same person in 1870, as the name is off, and the age is off, but I do think it is her. I didn't find her on the 1880 census.
Rosanna A.J. Grant was born ca 1834/35 in Rutherford Co, NC presumably in High Shoals Township. She was listed on the 1850 census with her parents, in both their listings. In the first listing she was "Rosana" age 13, and the second "R.A.J." age 15. She wasn't found on the 1860 census. The 1870 Mortality schedule for Rutherford Co, NC shows a "Rose Grant" age 28 (ca1840/41) who died August 1869 in Camp Creek Township. This was all the way in northern Rutherford County, but I think it is the same person, even though the age isn't an exact match. She was listed in household # 1 in Camp Creek, and interest is that household # 4 (of the regular census) is the poor house containing several Grants, including a Susan Grant age 28. I'm not at all sure these are of the same Grant family, but thought it was of interest.
Lucy Grant was born ca 1835/36 in Rutherford Co, NC presumably in High Shoals Township. She was listed on the 1850 census with her parents, in both their listings. In the first listing she was "Lucy" age 11, and the second "Louisa" age 14. She wasn't found on the 1860 census. On the 1870 census she was listed with with her stepmother Mary Jenkins Grant in High Shoal Township of Rutherford Co, NC. She was listed as "Lucy Harris" with an apparent son "Joseph H. Harris". In reality she was still a Grant, and so was her son Joseph. He was illegitimate, but apparently his father was a Mr. Harris. Lucy was listed on the 1880 census with her son Joseph Grant.

On 13 Dec 1888, in Rutherford Co, NC, "Lucy Grant" aged 52 (c1835/36) married Riley Harris, aged 79 (c1808/09). Riley Harris might be the one who was the father of her son Joseph Grant, since she listed him as a Harris on a previous census.
George W. Grant was born ca 1852/53 in Rutherford Co, NC, presumably in High Shoals Township. I didn't find him on the 1860 census, nor his parents, but he was listed with his step-mother Mary Jenkins Grant on the 1870 census in Rutherford Co, NC. I have no record of him after that.
