I (Marty Grant) am not related to Chapman C. G. Grant as far as I know.

Chapman C. G. Grant was born ca 1811/12 in Virginia, presumably in Harrison County (this is now in West Virginia). I don't know what his initials "C. G." might stand for.

I don't know who Chapman's parents were, but there was an older Chapman Grant in Harrison Co, VA in the 1810, 1820 and 1830 census. Perhaps he is Chapman's father, or at least a close relative and namesake.

The 1830 census index for Harrison Co, VA showed two Chapman Grant's listed. One simply "Chapman Grant", the other "Chapman J. Grant". One of these is probably Chapman C. G. Grant, but I don't know which was which yet. They were on the same page, but I don't have the enumerations yet.

It was around this time (ca 1830) that Chapman C. G. Grant married Mary J. ---, presumably in Harrison Co, VA (now WV). I don't know what her maiden name might be. There is a marriage for a Chapman C. Grant and a Jane Wines in 1828 in Fauquier Co, VA, but that is a good distance from Harrison County. However, it could be them, especially if Mary's name was "Mary Jane", and that is certainly likely.

"Chapman G. Grant" was listed on the 1840 census in Harrison Co, VA, but I don't have the enumerations yet.

At some point in the 1840's, Chapman and family moved a few counties southwest to Wirt Co, VA (now WV). Wirt was formed in 1848 from parts of Wood and Jackson County, so he may have been there before 1848 when Wirt was formed. If that is true, I don't know which section he was in, whether Wood or Jackson. More research is needed.

Chapman and family were listed on the 1850 census in Wirt Co, VA (now WV). They were the only Grants living there at the time.

Chapman and Mary had eight children by 1850, and may have had more afterwards. Since I have no additional data on any of them yet, I will not give them their own sections here (until more data is located).
