I don't know who his parents are. It seems reasonable to assume that he is a son of John Grant (bef 1765) who was in Richmond back in 1810 for he did have several sons Daniel's age. Of course John Grant vanished after the 1810 census so perhaps he and Daniel have no connection at all. However, I think there is a connection for Daniel's neighbors in 1830 are many of the same as were John's neighbors back in 1810 (or had the same surnames at least).

Daniel Grant was on the 1830 census in Richmond Co., NC, the only Grant there at that time. Malachi Grant (c1790) was in neighboring Marlboro Dist, SC in 1830 and he was in Richmond by 1840. May not be any connection, but I wanted to point it out.

Daniel is living by himself, listed between Catherine McLaurin and Daniel C. McCormick.

Analysis:

Daniel was not listed on the 1840 census in Richmond, nor nearby as far as I could determine. There were various Daniel Grants listed on the 1840 census, but no way to determine which of them (if any) is this same Daniel.

I checked the 1850 census for a Daniel Grant born ca 1800/10 and found several, but none who seem like a good fit.
