I (Marty Grant) am not related to the Edmund H. Grant family as far as I know. I am very interested in him though.
Edmund H. Grant was born ca 1821/22 in NC, presumably in Onslow Co, NC, though possibly in Craven County where his parents were residing as of the 1820 census..
I have him listed as a son of Solomon E. Grant and Frances Hatch based on an Article # 236 by Roger Kammerer, in Heritage of Onslow Co, NC. I haven't seen what proof was used to place Edmund as a son of Solomon though, so I'll just take it on faith for right now. The same article gives his full name as "Edmund Hatch Grant".
Edmund would have been about 8 years old by the time of the 1830 census. His father (in Onslow County that year) did have two apparent sons aged 5-9, or born ca 1820/25, one of which is likely to be Edmund.
Edmund H. Grant obtained a marriage bond in Craven Co, NC on 29 May 1839 to marry Celia E. Richardson. Their marriage was reported in the 15 Jun 1839 edition of the Raleigh Register as having taken place in New Bern (but no date was given). Celia was born ca 1820/25 (per 1840 census). I have "ca 1823" from somewhere, and as parents were married in 1822, it works. She was probably a daughter of Richard Richardson and Susan Coward. The proof for this is that after Celia's death, her child was apparently raised by Susan Coward Richardson.
I didn't find them listed on the 1840 census. Perhaps they were living with Celia's mother Susan Coward Richardson (widow of Richard Richardson) who was listed in 1840 Craven Co, NC. She did have an apparent male age 20-29 (born ca 1810/20), and a female age 15-19 (born ca 1820/25). I strongly suspect this is Edmund and Celia, living with Susan that year.
Celia Richardson Grant died sometime between ca 1842 and ca 1848 for on 1 Jun 1848 Edmund H. Grant married again.
On 1 Jun 1848 (source?) Edmund H. Grant married Martha Cornelia E. Wilson, who was then just recently widowed from Edmund's brother Christopher Dudley Grant. This information is per Roger Kammerer's article, mentioned above. Cornelia was born ca 1822/23, possibly in New Hanover County. I don't know who her parents were.
Edmund and family were listed on the 1850 census in New Hanover Co, NC. The child Christopher C. Grant (a daughter) was Cornelia's child by her first husband Christopher Dudley Grant. Edmund and Celia's child Richard Grant was residing with his maternal grandmother Susan Coward Richardson in Craven Co, NC in 1850.

In 1860 Edmund and Cornelia were still in New Hanover Co, NC and listed in Wilmington Township.

I have not yet located them on the 1870 census.
They were in Wilmington, New Hanover County for the 1880 census, living with daughter Kippie Whitehead and her family. ** I don't have this entry typed up yet.
So far I only know of one child of Edmund H. Grant, and that is son Richard R. Grant.
Richard R. Grant was born ca 1841/42 in North Carolina, probably in New Bern, Craven County. I would wager his full name is "Richard Richardson Grant" after his grandfather Richard Richardson. After the death of his mother, Richard was apparently raised by his grandmother Susan Richardson. He was with her in New Bern for the 1850 census.
