I (Marty Grant) am not related to the Christopher Dudley Grant family as far as I know. I am very interested in him though.
Christopher D. Grant was born ca 1820/25 in NC, presumably in Onslow Co, NC.
I have him listed as a son of Solomon E. Grant based on an Article # 236 by Roger Kammerer, in Heritage of Onslow Co, NC. I haven't seen what proof was used to place Christopher as a son of Solomon though, so I'll just take it on faith for right now. The same article gives his full name as "Christopher Dudley Grant".
Christopher would have been about 5-9 years old by the time of the 1830 census. His father (in Onslow County that year) did have two apparent sons aged 5-9, or born ca 1820/25, one of which is likely to be Christopher.
Christopher would have been about 15-19 years old by the time of the 1840 census. His father (in Onslow County that year) did not have anyone that age with him that year, however, Christopher's brother Reuben Grant (1809) did have an "extra" male that age with him in 1840. This could easily be Christopher.
According to the above mentioned article, Christopher married Martha Cornelia E. Wilson on 6 Oct 1840 (in New Hanover Co, NC, I think).
Christopher died sometime between ca 1842 and 1848, for on 1 Jun 1848 Cornelia married Christopher's brother Edmund H. Grant (2nd marriage for both). They (Christopher and Cornelia) apparently had one daughter listed as Christopher C. Grant in 1850, and as Kippy Grant in 1860.
Cornelia and her 2nd husband Edmund were listed on the 1850 census in New Hanover Co, NC. The child Christopher C. Grant (a daughter) was Cornelia's child by her first husband Christopher Dudley Grant.
