Elizabeth Grant and James Lane of Northampton Co, NC

I (Marty Grant) am not related to the Elizabeth Grant family as far as I know. I am very interested in her though.

Elizabeth Grant was born ca 1814/15 presumably in Northampton Co, NC. I don't know who her parents are.

Elizabeth Grant married James Lane ca 2 Dec 1848 in Northampton Co, NC.

James Lane and Elizabeth Grant were listed on the 1850 census in Northampton Co, NC next door to Mary, widow of William Grant. James and Elizabeth had two Lane children who both seem to predate their late 1848 marriage, so they may be his by a previous wife. There were also two Grant children listed, older than the Lane children. These could be a nephew and niece, or perhaps they are Elizabeth's children. If they are hers, then they were either born out of wedlock (if "Grant" is her maiden name), or she was previously married to a Mr. Grant who died before 1848. I don't know which is the correct answer yet.

Shadrack Grant was just a few households away. He supposedly had a daughter named Elizabeth Grant, this could be her, but I can't say for sure.

I didn't find Jesse Grant nor Mary Grant in the 1860 census in Northampton Co, NC.
