I (Marty Grant) am not related to the John C. Grant family as far as I know. I am very interested in him though.
John C. Grant was born ca 1800/10 presumably in Northampton Co, NC. I don't know who his parents might have been. There are several possibilities.
John C. Grant obtained a marriage bond to marry Rhoda Lassiter on 7 Apr 1829 in Northampton Co, NC. They were listed on the 1830 census in Northampton near several other Grants including Shadrack Grant, Temperence Grant, and William Grant. William could easily be John's father. I have no evidence to back that up though just yet.

On the 1840 census, I didn't find John listed. Their last known child was born ca 1839, so he might have died before 1840, and Rhoda could have been living with some of her relatives.

John died sometime between 1838 and 1850. His wife, Rhoda was listed as an apparent widow on the 1850 census. They weren't particularly close to any other Grant families.

Rhoda was listed on the 1860 census in Northampton Co, NC. Her two youngest daughters till with her, but listed with different names from 1850.

Some of John C. Grant and Rhoda Lassiter's chidlren are proven by the 1850 and 1860 census.
Edwin H. Grant was born ca 1829/30 in Northampton Co, NC. Edwin was at home with his mother in 1850. He married Margaret M. --- between 1850 and ca 1854 presumably in Northampton Co, NC (no record found). In 1860 they were listed with a Ralpho family, relationship unknown.

Minerva Grant was born ca 1832/33 in Northampton Co, NC. She was at home with her mother in 1850, but gone (married or dead) by 1860. A "Manervia Grant" married William Parker on 21 Jan 1860. This is probably her.
Saphronia Diana Grant was born ca 1835/36 in Northampton Co, NC. In 1850 she was home with her mother, and listed as "Saphronia Grant", in 1860, she was still home, but listed as "Diana Grant".
Tyarid Sinta Grant was born ca 1839/39 in Northampton Co, NC. In 1850 she was home with her mother, and listed as "Tyarid" Grant. In 1860 she was still home, but listed as "Sinta", which may be "Cynthia".
