I don't know what her initial stands for, though Mary, Margaret, Martha are some strong possibilities being the most common "M" names.

I don't know who her parents are.

In 1820 M. Grant would have been about 6 years old. Both Malachi Grant (c1790) and Richard S. Grant (1780/84) had a daughter in the under 10 age group (born ca 1810/20).

In 1830 M. Grant would have been about 16 years old. Richard S. Grant (1780/84) had one daughter aged 15-19 (c1810/15), and William Grant (c1775) had one daughter that age as well.

In 1840 M. would have been about 26. Again both Richard and William Grant had daughters the right age to be her.

M. was living with Dr. William Crosland in 1850. I don't know if she is related to him or not. She may have been a hired domestic servant and not a relative. No other Grants were nearby.

I didn't find M. on the 1860 census in Marlboro. She was not with the Crosland family in 1860. She may have married by then or died or moved away.
