William Grant was born ca 1774/75 per his age on the 1850
census (75). His 1850 census entry lists his birth place as South
Carolina, but I don't know where exactly. He may be related to Mary (---) Grant (c1755/74), Richard S. Grant (c1780/84) and Malachi Grant (c1790) of Marlboro. William Grant was not listed in Marlboro on the 1790, 1800, 1810 or 1820 census. Where was he during those years? Looking at 1820 there was a William Grant in Fairfield, but that isn't exactly next door to Marlboro. William Grant is listed on the 1830 census in Marlboro. Malachi Grant (c1790) was just about 6 houses away. Is that a coincidence? A little "curley-cue" at the end of the final "t" makes the surname look like "Grantz" or "Granty" instead of Grant. James Grant (c1823) is next door, he may be their son.
William Grant seems to have died in the 1850's, presumably in Marlboro Dist., SC. Ann is listed on the 1860 census in Marlboro.
I wasn't able to find Ann on the 1870 census. She may have died by then. |
