I (Marty Grant) am not related to William Grant as far as I know.

William Grant was born ca 1826/27 in TN, possibly in White County (where he resided later).

William Grant is most likely a son of Moses and Margaret Grant of White Co, TN. I have no direct proof of this, but the circumstantial evidence seems strong. William named his oldest son "Moses", and in 1850, William was just 2 houses from Margaret, widow of Moses Grant. Moses Grant (Sr) did have a son with him in 1830 and 1840 who was William's age.

William Grant was apparently home with his parents for the 1830 census in White Co, TN, age "under 5", (born ca 1825/30). He also seemed to be with them in 1840 in White Co, TN, age 10-14 (born ca 1825/30).

William Grant married Martha "Patsy" Ferguson ca 1847 or so in White Co, TN. I didn't find a marriage record, but their first child was born ca 1847/48. I have no direct proof for her maiden name, but in 1860, a widow, Sarah Ferguson (c1792) was residing with the family. She could be Martha's mother. If she wasn't her mother, then I don't know who she was, nor what Martha's maiden name was.  In 1850 White Co, TN, Sarah Ferguson, apparently widowed, was listed just a couple of pages from the Grants. Since she was near them in 1850 in White Co, TN, and was with them in 1860 Putnam Co, TN, that likely means that she is a close relative of some sort. I strongly suspect she was Martha's mother, but could be wrong about that.

William and Martha and family were listed on the 1850 census in White Co, TN in Civil District Number 10. They were two houses from William's widowed mother Margaret Grant.

In 1854, Putnam County, Tennessee was created from the northern part of White County, including the area where the Grants resided.

William and family were listed on the 1860 census in Putnam Co, TN, and on the same page with his widowed mother Margaret Grant. Sarah Ferguson, age 68 was residing with William and Martha, and is, presumably, Martha's mother. Page 53-27: William Grant-23, Patsey-23, Moses-11, Lawson-6, Lidda-2, Rilda-1, Sarah Ferguson-68. (From Sistlers 1860 Tennessee Census index).

William Grant age 45, was listed on the 1870 census index for Putnam County, TN. I don't have the listing yet.

I have no data on this family beyond this point.

Children

William Grant and Martha Ferguson had several children, but I have no additional data on any of them at this point.
