I (Marty Grant) am not related to Branson Hinsley as far as I know.

This family used the "Hinesly" (or similar) spellings fairly consistently. This seems to show they are part of the Chatham Co, NC family of that name.

Branson (or Bransom) Hinesly was born ca 1814/15 (per 1860 census) in North Carolina (also per 1860 census). He was most likely born in Chatham County, North Carolina.

Branson was a son of William Hinsley (1765/74) of Chatham Co, NC, as proven by his Will.

Branson Hinesly was presumably home with his parents for the 1820 census. He would have been about 5 years old, so should be enumerated in the "under 10" age group. It isn't known when his family moved to Tennessee, so I don't know if he would be found in NC or TN in 1820. In Chatham County, NC, William Hinsley (bef 1775) had two sons in this age group.

Branson Hinesly was presumably home with his parents for the 1830 census. He would have been about 15 years old, so should be enumerated in the 15-19 age group (born ca 1810/15) or possibly in the 10-14 age group (born ca 1815/20). It isn't known when his family moved to Tennessee, so I don't know if he would be found in NC or TN in 1830.

In 1840, Branson would have been about 25 years old. I didn't find him listed on the census, but there was a "B. B. Hinesley" in Chatham County. This could be Branson, but I'm not totally sure yet.

I also did not find Branson on the 1850 census. I don't know where he was that year.

Branson married Mary --- sometime before ca 1855. I don't know where they married, but their oldest child was born in Arkansas, so perhaps they married somewhere in that state. Mary was born ca 1827/28 in South Carolina. I don't know her maiden name.

They were living in Arkansas ca 1855, but by ca 1857 had moved to Lauderdale County, Tennessee. Lauderdale County was on the Mississippi River, and therefore borders Arkansas. Two of Branson's brothers were in neighboring Haywood County, Tennessee (Elias Hinsley and William Hinsley).

Branson and family were listed on the 1860 census in Lauderdale County.

I don't have them in 1870 but he was probably still in Lauderdale.

Branson died before 1880, for his wife Mary was listed as a widow that year in Lauderdale County, Tennessee. ** I don't have this entry typed up yet.

Children

Branson and Mary had five children per the 1860 and 1880 census. I have no additional data about them so far.
