Enoch Harvey Hensley was born 8 Oct 1822 (per his death certificate), somewhere in Virginia, county unknown, probably Augusta.

His death certificate lists his father as "George Hensley" and his mother as "--- Gaitor" (no given name). I haven't figured out which George Hensley this is yet. There was no one of that name anywhere in Virginia (including West Virginia) on the 1830 census. In 1840 there was only one, George W. Hensley (c1800) of Augusta Co., VA. He certainly could be the one, in fact it seems almost certain because George came to Upshur Co., WV for his second marriage in 1862 (though Enoch was gone from Upshur by then, it is still too much to be a coincidence, I think).

On 5 Aug 1845 E. H. Hensley married Ann Maria Bridge in Augusta Co., VA. She was born ca 1822/23 in Virginia. I don't know who her parents are.

They are on the 1850 census in Lewis Co., VA (now WV). It was hard to find them for they are listed as "Helsley" instead of Hensley, but it is clearly them.

They lived in the part of Lewis County that became Upshur County in 1851. Later in the 1850's they moved west to Wood County.

Ann died at some point in the 1850's, and Enoch married Nancy C. Gray sometime in the same decade. I don't know who her parents were.

They are on the 1860 census in Wood Co., VA (now WV), the only Hensleys in that county at the time.

They were still in Wood for the 1870 census, and still the only Hensleys there.

Enoch H. Hensley died on 6 May 1919 in Wood Co., WV. I don't know when his wife died.

Children of Enoch H. Hensley and Ann Maria Bridge and Nancy Gray. The 1850 through 1880 census records shows several children. Several of their births were also recorded in the Upshur County birth and death records. I don't know which children born in the 1850's belong to which wife for certain.
