| George Hensley was born ca 1813/14 per his age on
the 1860 census (46). He was born in Virginia per the same source.
I don't know who his parents are yet. It seems very likely that he is a brother to Stephen Hensley (c1816) as they were neighbors over the years, and both seemed to name a son after the other. George would have been about 16 years old by the time of the 1830 census. (I skip analysis of the 1820 census since there was no Logan County yet at that point.) None of the Hensley households in Logan included an apparent son in that age group or even close. Robert Hensley (c1777) is missing in 1830 as is John Hensley (1775/94). Those two are all possible parents for George Hensley. George would have been about 26 for the 1840 census, old enough to be on his own. I didn't find him listed on the 1840 census. George Hensley is listed on the 1843 tax list in Logan Co., VA (now WV). He had one male over 16 (himself), no blacks and no horses. George Hensley married Judith Conley between 1840 and ca 1841, presumably in Logan Co., VA. She was born ca 1804/05 in Virginia (both per her 1860 census entry). I don't know who her parents are. Her maiden name is given on the death certificate of her son Robert. I wasn't able to find them on the 1850 census, though they should have been in Logan County at that time I think. They are on the 1860 census in Logan. No other Hensleys are nearby.
They are on the 1870 census in Logan just three houses from Stephen Hensley (c1816).
They are on the 1880 census in Logan next door to Stephen Hensley (c1816).
I don't know when George or Judith died, though sometime after 1880. |
