James Madison Hensley was born ca 1823/24 per his age on the 1850
census (26). He was born in Virginia, presumably in Bedford County
where he lived later on. He is a proven son of William Hensley (c1775) and Sarah Eubank as named on his 1841 marriage bond (he was under 21, so he had to have his father's consent). By the 1830 census William would have been around 6 years old. William was in Bedford that year and he did have one apparent son aged 5-9 (c1820/25). In 1840 William would have been about 16 years old. William was listed in Bedford and had one apparent son aged 15-19 (c1820/25). On 23 Dec 1841 James M. Hensley, son of William, obtained a marriage bond in Bedford to marry Lucinda H. Millam. William H. Rice was bondsman. Lucinda's parents weren't listed. She was about 30 then and didn't need parental consent. I don't know who Lucinda's father was, but her mother is probably Mary (---) Millam (c1785) who was living with the family in 1850. They are on the 1850 census in Bedford Co., VA with Lucinda's probable mother living with them. His name is listed as "Adison" which should almost certainly say "Madison" instead. Lucinda is listed as "Lavinia" instead.
They are still in Bedford for the 1860 census, though not near any other Hensleys. Lucinda's mother is still with them.
I wasn't able to find them in 1870 in Bedford or anywhere else for that matter. I also sought them in 1880 and wasn't able to find them. |
