I (Marty Grant) am not related to John J. Hinesley as far as I know.
This family used the "Hinesley" or similar spelling. This probably suggests a connection to the Chatham Co, NC Hinesley family.
John J. Hinesley was born ca 1822/23 (per 1850 census) in Georgia (per 1850 census). If I have correctly identified his parents, then he was likely born in either Wilkinson or Henry County, Georgia. I'm not sure what his middle initial might stand for.
It seems very likely that John is a son of Alfred (or Alford) Hensley (c1794) and Nancy --- but I don't have solid proof for that, but Alfred did have an apparent son his age, and they were neighbors in Carroll County, Georgia. One problem with this though is that Alford seemed to have a much younger son named John M. Hinesley, born ca 1844, though it is possible that younger John was a grandson instead. However, I'm leaving this John J. with Alford until other evidence is found. He might just be a nephew (or other relation) of Alford instead of a son.
For the 1830 census, John would have been about 7 years old, so he should be enumerated in the 5-9 age group (born ca 1820/25). Alfred had two sons in the 5-9 age group with him in Henry Co, GA in 1830. One of them could be John.
John would have been about 17 by the time of the 1840 census, so he should be enumerated in either the 15-19 age group (born ca 1820/25), however, Alfred did not have a son that age with him. However, since John was 17 by then, he could easily be living with another family as a hired laborer, or off at school.
John J. Hensley married Nancy --- sometime just before ca 1849 in Carroll County, Georgia. Nancy was born ca 1827/28 in South Carolina. I don't know her maiden name.
John and family were on the 1850 census in Carroll County, Georgia, just three houses from possible brother Thomas H. Hinesley (c1825) and just 5 houses from his possible parents Alfred and Nancy.

I don't know what happened to them, as they were not found in 1860 or 1870, but by 1880 they were in Winston County, Alabama, listed next door to John's possible brother Charles M. Hinesley (c1832).
John and Nancy had at least one child per the 1850 census, and several others per the 1880 census.
