I (Marty Grant) am not related to John Hensley as far as I know.

John Hensley was born ca 1834/35 in Yancey Co, NC.

I don't know for sure who John's parents are, but I suspect he is a son of Blanchey Hensley (c1805), and therefore born out of wedlock to an unknown father.

Presumably, John Hensley (c1835) would be home with his parents for the 1840 census, however Blanchey was not listed in 1840.

John was residing with John McElroy in 1850 in Yancey Co, NC. He was only three houses from Berry Hensley (c1783), and four from William H. Hensley (c1828). He may have been a hired hand residing with the McElroy family, or perhaps John McElroy was his guardian. That may mean he is the grandfather, or somehow related to John Hensley.

John Hensley married Clarissa Wheeler on 22 Jan 1852 in Yancey County. Clarissa was born ca 1833/34, son of Rev. John Wheeler and Rhoda --- Wheeler.

They were listed on the 1860 census in Yancey County with probable brother Howard Hensley living with them.
