I (Marty Grant) am not related to Levi Hensley as far as I know.

Levi Hensley was born ca 1815/16 in Buncombe Co, NC (Now Yancey Co, NC). I've also seen the birth date of "10 Jan 1811" for Levi, but I don't know what the source is for that, so I'm basing his birth year on his age in the 1850 census (which is probably wrong for various reasons, see below).

I have seen Levi listed as a son of James and Nancy Hensley, and this seems to be proven by James' tombstone in Clay County, KY that lists him as Levi's father. (Thanks to Sheryl Holland for sharing this).

Levi Hensley would have been about 4 years old in 1820, so he should be in the "under 10" category (born ca 1810/20), and James did have an apparent son that age.

In 1830 Levi would have been about 14, so probably in the age 10-14 group (born ca 1815/20). James did have an apparent son that age.

Levi Hensley married Anna --- ca 1830/1832 in Buncombe (now Yancey) Co, NC. I have no clues as to her maiden name. This conflicts with her approximate birth year of ca 1819/20 (per her age in 1850 of "30"). That means she was at most 12 years old when married, which is highly unlikely. I feel that the 1850 census entry for this family is wrong for several reasons (see below), so she was probably a little bit older than 30 in 1850.

Levi Hensley was listed on the 1840 census in Yancey Co, NC. His next door neighbors were Jesse Harris and Samuel Freeman. He was just three houses from James B. Hensley.

Levi and family were listed on the 1850 census in Clay Co, KY four houses from Pleasant Hensley (c1800) and three houses from Benjamin Hensley, and 2 houses from William Hensley (c1823)James and Nancy Hensley, Levi's possible parents, were about 14 houses away. This clearly shows that Levi was somehow closely related to those Hensleys. Though they were listed so close to the other Hensleys, it appears that Levi's family was mis-enumerated. Everyone was listed as born in "SC" (South Carolina), where it should be North Carolina for most, and Kentucky for the younger family members. The ages are also suspect.

Children

Levi and Anna had eight children by 1850. For the most part, I have no additional data on the children, so they will not get their own sections, until I find some information on them. Some of them married in Clay County, KY and were listed on the 1860 census there.
