I (Marty Grant) am not related to William Hensley as far as I know.

William Hensley was born ca 1829/30 (per 1850 census) in Roane (now Loudon) County, Tennessee.

William is a son of Benjamin Hensley (c1797) and Mary Gallion of Roane Co, TN. I have not seen absolute proof that William is there son, but the circumstantial evidence is strong. Benjamin did have an apparent son this age, and William was always near Benjamin in the census records, and near Benjamin's proven children. Also, an 1859 deed between William, John and Marshall, pertaining to land that Benjamin lived on, seems to show a close relationship.

William was apparently not born yet by the time of the 1830 census, since his parents had no one his age with them then. This probably means he was born later in 1830, after the census taker came around.

William did seem to be home with his parents for the 1840 census, age 10-14 (born ca 1825/30).

On 3 Oct 1849, William Hensley obtained a marriage bond in Roane County to marry Elizabeth Dennis. They married the next day (4 Oct 1849). Elizabeth A. Dennis was born ca 1828/29 in Tennessee. I don't know who her parents are, but she could be a sister to Edward Dennis who married William Hensley's sister Nancy in 1851.

William Hensley and family were listed on the 1850 census in Roane just two houses from his parents, and his grandfather Robert Hensley (1760).

William and family were listed on the 1860 census in Roane County next to brother Marshall G. Hensley and just a few houses from parents.

** I don't have them on the 1870 census yet. I did not find them in Roane, but I could have missed them.

Later in 1870, Loudon County was created from the eastern portion of Roane (and other counties), including the section where the Hensleys resided.

William and family moved to Wright County, Missouri before 1880 and were listed there on that census. ** I don't have this entry typed up yet.

Children

William and Elizabeth had at least 9 children, all born in Roane (now Loudon) Co, TN. It seems they all went to Wright Co, MO with the family in the 1870's. I don't have much additional data on any of them so far.
