I don't know who his parents are. He lived very close to John Hensley (c1798) and Mary Head's family. They did have an unidentified son his age per the 1830 and 1840 census. I have no proof that he is their child though, but it fits.

William would have been about six years old for the 1830 census. In Scott County Zachariah Hensley and Jesse Hensley were the only ones with an apparent son that age. Neither of them are likely to be William's father. In neighboring Washington Co., VA John Hensley (c1798) and Samuel Hensley (1755) had apparent sons his age. Samuel isn't William's father, so that leaves John as the prime choice.

In 1840 William would have been about 16 years old. Zachariah Hensley in Scott County had one son about that age (probably not William), and Isom Hensley (c1798) had one son that age. Isom isn't William's father for he had a son named William, a younger person than this one. John Hensley (c1798) was still in Washington County in 1840 and he did have an apparent son William's age.

William Hensley married Ann (---) before ca 1848 either in Scott County or in Washington County (no marriage record found). She was born ca 1824/25 in Virginia. I don't know her maiden name.

They are listed on the 1850 census in Scott County, but not near any of the other Hensleys. There is a Cross living with them, relationship unknown.

They are on the 1860 census in Scott County just three houses from his widowed mother (if Mary Head Hensley is indeed his mother). No other Hensleys were listed nearby. Their youngest child was born in Indiana, so apparently the family moved briefly to Indiana but returned to Virginia.

I wasn't able to find any of them on the 1870 census in Scott Co., VA. I looked for them elsewhere as well but wasn't able to locate them. I did find a Wilson Hensley age 20 in Union Co., IN in 1870. He could be the same Wilson from this family, but I'm not positive.

I also looked for them in 1880 with no luck.

Children of William Hensley and Ann (---). They had four children per the 1850 and 1860 census. Unfortunately I haven't been able to trace any of them past the 1860 census.
