I (Marty Grant) am not related to William Hensley as far as I know.

William Hensley was born ca 1829/30 (per 1850 census) in Tennessee (per 1850 census). I don't know what county he was born in.

I don't know who William's parents are, but is very likely a brother to Martin Hensley (c1832) who was living with him in 1850. Both were born in Tennessee, so it seems reasonable to assume they were brothers.

They may be closely related to the Russell Hensley (c1804) family, formerly of Lawrence Co, TN, who was also in Van Buren Co, AR in 1850. It is also possible they are closely related to Sampson Hensley (c1819) who was formerly of Lewis County, TN, who was in Van Buren by 1850.

William Hensley would have been about 1 year old (or less) by the time of the 1830 census, so if enumerated (with his parents) he should be in the "under 5" age group (born ca 1825/30). There are too many places in Tennessee to look so I don't know where to begin.

William would have been about 10 years old by the time of the 1840 census, so he should be enumerated in the age 10-14 category (born ca 1825/30). He may have been in Tennessee still then, or perhaps his family had moved to Arkansas already by then. There were no Hensleys in Van Buren County, Arkansas in 1840.

William Hensley married Clarissa --- before 1849, presumably in Van Buren Co, AR. Clarissa was born ca 1830/31 in either Illinois (per 1850 census) or Tennessee (per 1860 census). I don't know her maiden name.

In 1850, William Hensley and family were listed in Van Buren Co, AR in Hartzoggs District. Probable brother Martin Hensley (c1832) was living with them.  Other Hensleys were just a few pages away, namely the Russell Hensley (c1804) family.

William Hensley and family was still in Van Buren for the 1860 census, though not listed near any other Hensleys that year.

Children

William and Clarissa had at least five children per the various census records. I don't have much additional data on any of them so far.
