I (Marty Grant) am not related to Sampson Hensley as far as I know.

Sampson Hensley was born ca 1818/19 in Tennessee, probably in Hickman County or Wayne County (now Lewis County) where he was living later on.

Sampson Hensley is a proven son of Larkin Hensley (1779) and Margaret Hinson, as named in Larkin's Will (1865).

The family apparently lived in that part of Hickman County that is now Lewis County, but went through several changes over the years. It was Hickman County until 1817 when Wayne County was formed. They were in that county for awhile, but then back in Hickman later on, and there until Lewis County was formed in 1843.

Sampson Hensley was presumably home with his parents for the 1820 census. He would have been about 1 year old, so should be in the "under 10" age group (born ca 1810/20). Larkin Hensley was listed in Wayne County that year and had three apparent sons in that age group, one of them was probably Sampson.

Sampson was still apparently home with Larkin for the 1830 census. They were in Hickman County, and Sampson was about 11 years old, and Larkin did have two apparent sons age 10-14 (born ca 1815/20), one of which was probably Sampson.

Sampson Hensley was still probably home with his parents for the 1840 census. He would have been about 21 years old, and Larkin Hensley had one apparent son age 20-29 (born ca 1810/20) with him that year, who was probably Sampson.

Sampson Hensley married Nancy --- prior to ca 1842 in Hickman (now Lewis) Co, TN. Nancy was born ca 1824/25 in Tennessee. I don't know her maiden name.

Lewis County was created in 1843 from parts of several counties including the section of Hickman County where Sampson Hensley and family resided.

Sometime between ca 1848 and 1850, Sampson and family moved west to Van Buren County, Arkansas.

They were in Van Buren Co, AR for the 1850 census in Union Township, next door to Russell Hensley (c1804) who was undoubtedly a cousin. He was a son of Lucinda Hensley (c1780), who could be a daughter-in-law to Hickman Hensley (1759). If this relationship is correct, then Russell and Sampson would be first cousins.

Sampson and family were still in Van Buren for the 1860 census, once again near Russell Hensley's family (though Russell was dead by then, but his widow Susan was nearby). They were in Union Township.

On 11 Apr 1865, Sampson's father Larkin Hensley made his Will in Lewis County, naming his heirs, including his son "Sampson ".

They were still in Van Buren for the 1870 census, in Union Township, next door to Russell Hensley, son of Russell Hensley (c1804), Sampson's cousin. ** I don't have this entry typed up yet.

Children

Sampson and Nancy had at least 8 children per the various census records. I don't have much additional data on any of them yet.
