The author (Marty Grant) is not related to Drury D. Patterson as far as can be determined. Note: I've made the assumption that Drury D. Patterson of 1830 Habersham Co., GA is the same person as D. D. Patterson of 1840 Pickens Co., AL and 1850 Yalobusha Co., MS, though I don't have absolute proof that they are the same person, but that appears to be the case. Drury D. Patterson was born ca 1800/10 per his age on the 1830 census (20-29). His 1850 census entry gives his age as 38 (born ca 1812 in Georgia), but that may be off a bit. I don't know who his parents are. Drury D. Patterson married Eleanor (---) sometime prior to ca 1829, probably in Georgia. She was born ca 1809/10 in South Carolina. I don't know her maiden name. The first record I have for Drury is his entry on the 1830 census in Habersham Co., GA. He is nine households from William B. Patterson (1800/10), perhaps closely related. Drury is listed between two Cleveland households, so that might be significant. 1830 census analysis (based on available evidence): (Explanation of this census) 1830 Habersham Co., GA page 35 Drury D. Patterson on the 1840 census anywhere, nor on the 1850 census anywhere. I did find a D. D. Patterson on both those census records. This could be the same person, but I'm not certain. He did have Georgia roots, so that fits. He was in Pickens Co., AL in 1840. The ages are compatible for D. D. and wife of 1840 to be Drury D. and wife of 1830. There were two other Pattersons in 1840 Pickens (Francis and James) but they were many pages away. Is D. D. Patterson of 1840 Pickens Co., AL the same person as Drury D. Patterson of 1830 Habersham Co., GA? Maybe, but I don't have enough information to prove or disprove it at this time. It does fit fairly well, so I think it is the same family, though plenty of room for doubt. 1840 census analysis (based on available evidence): (Explanation of this census) 1840 Pickens Co., AL page 307 D. D. Patterson in Yalobusha Co., MS. This is clearly the same one from 1840 Pickens Co., AL, but I still don't know if he is the same from 1830 Habersham Co., GA though it fits very well: North of the Yalobusha River # 567/567 D. D. Who is Mary V. Patterson (c1830 AL) who is with them in 1850? They have a daughter named Mary already, so this is someone else, perhaps a niece, or maybe the wife of John if he is married already by 1850. I looked for them in 1860. They were no longer in Yalobusha Co., MS. I wasn't able to find a single member of this family anywhere on the 1860 census. I also looked for them in 1870 with no luck. |
Children of Drury D. Patterson and Eleanor (---). The 1830, 1840 and 1850 census shows several children, 11 of whom are proven by the 1850 census. Two daughters born ca 1835/40 are home in 1840 but gone by 1850. |
