I (Marty Grant) am not related to Jehu R. Patterson as far as I know.

Jehu R. Patterson was born ca 1811/12 in Buncombe Co, NC (now Yancey Co, NC). He is most likely a son of Robert and Catherine Patterson, though I have no direct proof that he is their son, but circumstantial evidence makes it seem highly likely.

Jehu was apparently with his parents for the 1820 census in Buncombe, as Robert Patterson had a son with him under age 10 (born ca 1810/20).

Jehu was still apparently with his parents for the 1830 census in Buncombe, in the age 15-19 category (born ca 1810/15).

Jehu R. Patterson married Nancy --- sometime ca 1830/1835 in Yancey Co, NC. Somewhere along the way, someone either shared this with me, or I found it published somewhere, that Nancy's maiden name was "Hampton", and that she was a daughter of Ezekiel Hampton. I don't know what the evidence for this is, as I can't find it in my notes. A 1997 query by Jennifer Day shows Nancy to be a "Wyatt".

"Jehu R. Patterson" was listed on the 1835 Congressional Voter List as having voted in Yancey County in Cany River Precinct.

Jehu was listed on the 1840 census in Yancey County, next door to his father Robert. On the other side was Gabriel Sams. Jehu had two females age 20-29 in his house, one being his wife, and the other unknown. She could be a sister, or sister-in-law, or other relative, or boarder. His sister Nancy was "missing" this year from their parents household, but not yet married so this could be her.

Jehu and family were listed on the 1850 census in Yancey Co, NC. They weren't listed very close to any other Pattersons, but his parents were only 2 pages away. Their neighbors on either side were Ward Hampton, age 37 (relative of Nancy?), and John J. Evans. A John Pate, age 17 was with the Pattersons as a Laborer, so he might be just a hired hand, though could be a relative.

I have not traced this family beyond this point yet, but will do so when time permits. Jehu had Real Property ($400 worth) in 1850, so there should be deed records for him. Yancey County records may hold a great deal more info on Jehu and family.

Children

Jehu and Nancy had six children by the time of the 1850 census, and probably had more afterwards, so I'll not discuss them individually until I get more information on them.
