I (Marty Grant) do not know how (or if) I'm related to Jackson Stuart.
Jackson Stuart (also "Stewart") was born ca 1819/20 in North Carolina. I don't know what county. He lived in Ashe County, NC later on. If his parents were who I believe they were, then he was probably born in Surry Co, NC..
I don't know who Jackson's parents are for sure, but I've seen him listed as a child of Joseph Stewart and Margaret Dean of Surry Co, NC and Patrick and Grayson Co, VA. I don't know what the source for that connection is, but it could be correct. I can't say for sure.
Presumably, Jackson would have been home with his parents for the 1820, 1830 and 1840 census. There were no Stewarts in Ashe County during those years, so he must have moved there from elsewhere. There were Stewarts all over western NC in 1820 including some in Surry County, and also in Wilkes County (which bordered Ashe County). Jackson's possible father Joseph Stewart, was in Grayson Co, VA in 1820. I don't have his census enumerations, so I don't know if he had a son Jacksons age. Grayson Co, VA bordered North Carolina, so that was not far away.
In 1830, Jackson would have been approximately 10 years old, so he should be enumerated in the age 10-14 category (c1820/25). There were no Stewarts in Ashe County. Joseph Stewart was not in NC in 1830. I don't have the listing, but I suspect he was still in Grayson Co, VA.
In 1840, Jackson would have been about 20 years old, so he should be in the age 20-29 category (c1810/20). I don't have his supposed father Joseph in 1840 yet, so can't confirm he had a son this age.
Jackson Stuart (listed as "Stewart" on marriage bond) married Hiley Francis (listed as "Hyla" on bond) on or after 1 Aug 1844 in Ashe Co, NC (date of marriage bond). I don't know who her parents were for sure. The 1840 census showed only one Francis family in Ashe Co, NC, that of Elijah Francis. It seems likely that Elijah Francis was her father. He did have an apparent daughter her age with him in 1840. That also makes her a likely sister of Sarah Francis who married Joseph Stuart, Jackson's brother (probably).
Jackson Stuart was listed on the 1850 census in Ashe Co, NC. There were two other Stuarts in the county by 1850, one, Joseph Stuart (c1815) was listed fairly close by. The other, Newell Stuart (c1813) was not near by. I suspect all three were brothers. Jackson and family were listed between the families of William Francis (c1827) (Hiley's brother?) and John Dunkin. Hiley's parents, Elijah and Mary Francis were just a two houses away from them. Also, on the previous page (but only a few households away) was David May (c1771) who was a brother-in-law of Joseph Stewart (Sr), probable father of Jackson, Joseph and Newell. This proximity adds to the likelihood of these three being Joseph's sons.

I have no data on them beyond this point.
Jackson and Hiley Stewart had three children by the time of the 1850 census. They may have had others after 1850.
