Revision History:

1 Nov 2008 - Created by Marty Grant.

Ann (---) Watson was born before 1765 per her age on the 1810 census. She is probably the widow of a Mr. Watson who died before 1810, or else she is a single woman who was born a Watson.

It is entirely possible that she is the same person as Anne Watson who was in neighboring Bladen Co., NC in 1800, but I dont think they are the same person. I could be wrong though.

I dont know who her husband might have been. She is almost certainly closely related to William Watson (1770/75) of Brunswick. He could be her son, but I have no proof of that other than them living near each other.

The 1790 census shows no Watsons in Brunswick County. In 1800 there was only William Watson (1770/75) there. William did have two females age 26-44 (born 1755/74) with him. One of those could easily be Ann Watson. If so that would strongly suggest is his mother. However there is no way to be certain who it was, whether Ann or someone else.

Ann is listed on the 1810 census in Brunswick near William. She is only listed by initial N. Watson, but keep in mind that Nancy and Ann are names that were used interchangeably in those days, so it is probably the same person.

1810 census analysis (based on available evidence): (Explanation of this census)

1810 Brunswick Co., NC pg 236 N. Watson 00000-01111-0-0
Analysis:
1 Female 45+ (bef 1765) Nancy Ann (---) Watson (bef 1765)
1 female 26-44 (1765/1784) Daughter?
1 female 16-25 (1784/1794) Daughter?
1 female 10-15 (1794/1800) Daughter?

It is possible that Ann isnt the oldest woman in the household in 1810, but one of the younger females instead.

Ann is listed on the 1820 census in Brunswick just a couple of houses from William Watson.

1820 census analysis (based on available evidence): (Explanation of this census)

1820 Brunswick Co., NC pg 7 Ann Watson 000000-00102-0-0
Analysis:
2 Females 45+ (bef 1775) 1-Nancy Ann (---) Watson (bef 1765)
                                      2-Daughter?
1 female 16-25 (1794/1804) Daughter?

I didnt find Ann on the 1830 census. She may have died by then.

Children of Ann (---) Watson. Ann has three apparent daughters with her in 1810, and two still at home in 1820. It is possible she is the mother of William Watson (1770/75), but I have no proof of that yet.

1.      Unknown Daughter (1765/75)

2.      Unknown Daughter (1784/94)

3.      Unknown Daughter (1794/1800)

Unknown Daughter (1765/75). Ann had an apparent daughter this age with her on the 1810 census, aged 26-44 (1765/84), and still home in 1820, aged 45+ (bef 1775). This could be a sister instead of a daughter, but that is hard to say.
Unknown Daughter (1784/94). Ann Watson had an apparent daughter this age with her in 1810, aged 16-25 (1784/94), but gone by 1820.
Unknown Daughter (1794/1800). Ann Watson had an apparent daughter this age with her in 1810, aged 10-15 (1794/1800), and still home in 1820 aged 16-25 (1794/1804).

This is probably Elizabeth Watson (c1796) who married Thomas Graves in Brunswick on 20 Jul 1824 (date of marriage bond, Joseph Graves, bondsman).

They are listed on the 1830, 1840 and 1850 census in Brunswick. In 1840 they are next to William Watson (1770/75). Thomas died in the 1850s and Elizabeth is listed on her own on the 1860 census in Brunswick in North West District. I didnt find her in 1870.

Their 1830 and 1840 census entry shows they only had one daughter born ca 1820/25. She was married or dead by 1850. I havent identified her yet.
