Revision History: 3 Nov 2008 - Created by Marty Grant. |
John Watson was born before ca 1755 per the 1800
census. I dont know who his parents were.
On 2 Jul 1773 Abraham and Martha Strickland deeded John Watson 200 acres for ₤25. The land was on Drowning Creek Swamp (Lumber River), mile above the mouth of Long Swamp. Witnesses were Malcom McFater, William Gulledge and John Gilchrist. (Bladen Co., NC Deed Book A (23), page 538) On 1 Apr 1774 John Watson and John Gilchrist witnessed a deed between William Gulledge, planter, to Roger McGill planter for land on east side of Drowning Creek (Lumber River). (Bladen Co., NC Deed Book A (or 23), page 356) The above land is somewhere in present day Robeson County, probably south east of Lumberton. John Watson was listed on the 1784 tax list in Bladen Co., NC with 235 acres, one white and no blacks. He was in Capt. McNeills district. James Watson was listed in that district too, relationship unknown. Robeson County was formed from western Bladen in 1786. John and James Watson fell into that county. John Watson appears on the 1790, 1800, 1810 and perhaps the 1820 census in Robeson Co., NC. I have not researched the Watsons of Robeson Co., NC in any detail. |
