* James R. Curry in Harrison Co., KY p.
age 50-59 (1790/1800) 00010001-0021001;

!NOTES:Per Laura Schreibman's research, James R. Curry of Harrison Co., KY was paid several times for the support and maintenance of "Susan Hensley" a "pauper" of that county. Dated 1844 and 1845. In 1846 John Ball was paid for "moving" Susan Hensley. In 1848 Thomas Rankin was taking care of her, and later that year it was Albert G. King.

Was "Susan Hensley" pauper, of Harrison Co., KY the same person as Susana Hensley Curry? The fact that James R. Curry was the first one listed as taking care of her certain makes a connection of some sort. However, why was she a Hensley again and not a Curry? Did she and her husband divorce? Was James. R. Curry that husband? He was about the same age as her, and the "R" could be for "Robert" making him the same one from 1810.;

!CENSUS:1850 x
* James R. Curry, 60 b. KY, and wife Martha, 50 by PA, were on the census in 1850 in Harrison Co., KY. No sign of Susan Hensley or Curry that year;

!CENSUS:1810 Marion Dist, SC pg 86 Richard BARNES age 45+ (bef 1765) "01101-02001-0-0";

!CENSUS:1820;

Richard Barnes was born ca 1755/65, whereabouts unknown, possibly in SC.

I suspect that Richard is a son or a brother of Charles Barnes, but I have no real proof of that, other than them being near each other.

Richard apparently married Martha --- before ca 1790. I have no proof that Martha was his wife, but a widow Martha Barnes appeared in Marion for the 1820 census, and her household matched Richard's fairly well, and he did not appear in 1820. So, for now, I'm assuming she was his widow.

Though they seemed to be married before 1790, I didn't find Richard Barnes on the 1790 census. He wasn't listed in Georgetown District, SC, nor was there a Richard Barnes listed anywhere else in eastern SC or eastern NC.

Marion District was created in 1798 from Georgetown District.

Richard Barnes was listed on the 1800 census in Marion District, SC. He was listed next door to Charles Barnes, his possible father, or perhaps a older brother.

1800 census analysis (based on available evidence): (Explanation of this census)

1800 Marion District, SC pg 438/782 Richard Barns 01010-20010
Analysis:
1 Male(s) 26-44 (1755-1774) Richard BARNES (1755/65)
1 Male(s) 10-15 (1784-1790) Son? (1784/90)
1 Female(s) 26-44 (1755-1774) Martha ___ Barnes, (1755/65) Wife
2 Female(s) 0-9 (1790-1800) Daughter? (1794/1800)
Daughter? (1794/1800)

Richard Barnes was not listed on the 1809 Marion voter list.

Richard Barnes was listed on the 1810 census in Marion Dist, SC. He was just a few houses from Viney Barnes, an apparent widow, who was next door to Charles Barnes.

1810 census analysis (based on available evidence): (Explanation of this census)

1810 Marion District, SC pg 86A Richard Barnes 01101-02001
Analysis:

1 Male(s) 10-15 (1794-1800) Son? (1794/1800) * Not in 1800
1 Female(s) 45 & up (before 1765) Martha ___ Barnes, (1755/65) Wife
2 Female(s) 10-15 (1794-1800) Daughter? (1794/1800)
Daughter? (1794/1800)

Richard Barnes was not listed on either the 1811 or 1814 Marion tax lists (which means he owned no land or other taxable property).

Richard was not listed on the 1820 census in Marion District, SC, so that means he either died before then, or moved away. I think he died, as there appeared a widow Martha Barnes on the 1820 census. Her household contained children that matched those Richard had in 1800 and 1810, and it appears to me that she was probably his widow. I have no real proof though, so this is entirely circumstantial.

Unfortunately, this census was alphabetical, so we can't tell where she lived, nor who her neighbors were. Martha was head of household, and aged 45 and up, but there were two men this same age with the family. I don't know who this might have been.

1820 census analysis (based on available evidence): (Explanation of this census)

1820 Marion District, SC pg 56 Martha Barnes 100102-00201
Analysis:

1 Male(s) 0-9 (1810-1820) Son? Grandson?(1810/20)
1 Female(s) 45 & up (before 1775) Martha ___ Barnes (1755/65) wd/o Richard
2 Female(s) 16-25 (1794-1804) Daughter? (1794/1800)
Daughter? (1794/1800)

Martha Barnes was not listed on the 1824 Marion tax list.

I didn't find any record for Martha Barnes after 1820, so she probably died around then, or else moved away, or spent her remaining years with children.

!NOTES:From 1802 to 1805 a James Turner (not this same man) was Governor of North Carolina, thus his name appears in the Deed Books and Grantor index many times in Richmond Co., NC for Land Grants. He is usually listed simply as "J. Turner" but sometimes as "Jas Turner." Since the Governor only appears during those few years, and in relation to Land Grants, there shouldn't be any confusion in the records between the two men. Gov. Turner was from a different part of the state.
It is very unusual for the Governor's name to be listed as the grantor in the deed indexes even though his name is on the Grant. It was technically the State that granting the land and usually indexed that way.;
