Sellers, Esq., of the Marion Bar. 1902. pp. 167-170 ... The first one known to the writer, in about 1830, was Preserved Ford, universally called Zarv Ford ; he was then seventy-five or eighty years of age, may be older ; he lived on the west side of Caddy's Mills, then called Ford's Mills. It was at an association held at the old Saw Mill Church, on the east side of the mills—the church was old and dilapidated. It was there that I first saw him, and never saw him afterwards. He was a well-to-do man, and prominent in his day; he had three sons, Jessee, William and Charles. ... Major Jessee Ford, the eldest son, represented the district in the Legislature in the twenties—I do not know the precise date.* [* Jessee Ford was elected a Representative in 1820. See list of Representatives in latter part hereof.] He was Major in the militia ; his first wife was a Miss Townsend, of Robeson County, N. C. ; by her he had two sons, the late Elias B. Ford and Allen Ford ; his second wife was a Miss Watson, a daughter of Scarcebook Watson, above Nichols, on the road from Nichols to Lumberton, N. C. by the second wife he had several sons and daughters ; the sons, as their names are remembered, were Watson, Jessee, Thomas, David and Charles Ford. ... The daughters of Major Jesse Ford, as remembered, were Elizabeth, Mary, Caroline and Virginia. Elizabeth married William H. Hays; by him she had several children; Mary married John I. Gaddy, and died in a year or two childless; Caroline married Dr. George E. Shooter, and raised a large family, unknown ; I do not remember what became of Virginia. Major Jesse Ford may have had other daughters. ; | Ford, Rep Jesse (I36764)

Barnes family. I am very interested in him though. David W. Barnes was born ca 1780/90, whereabouts unknown, possibly in SC. David was not listed on the 1810 census in Marion Dist, SC. David Barnes was not listed on the 1811 nor the 1814 tax list in Marion Dist, SC. On 5 Apr 1813 D.W. Barnes witnessed a Administration Bond for Elizabeth Lee to be administrator for Thomas Lee, deceased. (Marion County Probate Records Volume I, # 453 by Lucille Utley, Danny Smith, Indexed by Ferrell and Nancy Prosser, 1985). On 2 Apr 1814, David W. Barnes witnessed a deed between John Finkley (Finklea) to Stephen Foxworth for land on Gum Swamp. (Marion Co, SC Deed Book F page 447 from Marion County Abstracts of Deeds Volume Two Books F-I & K 1811-1823 abstracted from the Deed Books by Lucille Utley, Edited, Indexed and Published by Alita White Sutcluffe). In 1817 (ca 2 June 1817) David Barnes was one of the appraisors of the estate of Richard Fore. (Marion County Probate Records Volume I, # 263 by Lucille Utley, Danny Smith, Indexed by Ferrell and Nancy Prosser, 1985). On 15 Dec 1817, David Barnes (and also Thomas Barnes, James Barnes Sr and James Barnes) were purchasers at the estate sale of Niel Hughes. (Marion County Probate Records Volume I, # 372 by Lucille Utley, Danny Smith, Indexed by Ferrell and Nancy Prosser, 1985). David Barnes was not listed on the 1820 census in Marion Dist, SC. On 15 Nov 1821 David Barnes witnessed a deed between Lewis Maires and David Perritt. (Marion Co, SC Deed Book K page 90). On 30 Dec 1822 James Campbell sold 57 acres to David Barnes, land below Maiden Down Bay and South East Branch. James Campbell was married to Mary Barnes, and for this reason I've suspected that David could be Mary's brother. (Marion Co, SC Deed Book O page 263). David Barnes was listed on the 1824 Marion tax list and charged with 4 cents tax. David was listed on the 1830 census. Unfortunately, this census was alphabetical, so we can't tell where he lived, nor who his neighbors were, but he was probably in the Maiden Down Bay area near the Campbells and the other Barnes families. !CENSUS:1830 Marion District, SC pg 6 David Barnes 0200001000000-0001010000000 Analysis: 1 Male(s) 40-49 (1780-1790) David BARNES (1780/90) 2 Male(s) 5-9 (1820-1825) Son? (1810/15) I didn't find any record for David Barnes after 1830, so he probably died around then, or else moved away. A David Barnes was listed on the 1840 and 1850 census in neighboring Darlington District, SC, but that appears to be a younger man of the same name. Children David Barnes and his wife apparently had at least three children per the 1830 census. 1 Unknown Daughter (c1810/15) 2 Unknown Son (c1820/25) 3 Unknown Son (c1820/25) | Barnes, David W (I19133)
