!ESTATE:11 Oct 1836 Montgomery Co., KY Record Book A1-101-102 Estate of Fielding Hensley, decd. widow Hensley.

!NOTES:On 9 Aug 1838, John Craig and wife Polly, made a deed to the heirs of Fielding Hensley, deceased, for the 100 acres on Red River, being the same originally sold to Fielding on 12 Aug 1823. The heirs were named as Sarah Hensley widow of Fielding Hensley deceased, William Hensley, John Hensley, James Hensley, Susannah Hensley, Zurilda Centers wife of John Centers, Henry Hensley and Samuel Hensley children and heirs at law of Fielding Hensley all of Montgomery Co., KY. The purpose of this deed was to record the original sale, as apparently no deed had been filed prior to this. I had originally only seen a summary abstract of this deed which lead me to wrongly conclude that John Craig and wife Polly were also heirs, selling their share of the estate to the other heirs. That wasn’t the case at all. (Montgomery Co., KY Deed Book 18, pp. 325-326, shared by Kyle Wear.)

!EQUITY: 9 Jul 1831 Marion County Equity rolls (Marion County South Carolina Extracts from Equity Rolls by Lucille Utley) in Roll # 45 a case is found naming numerous heirs (this is from Ms. Utley's extract, the notes given are hers):
John Smith and others vs. Archibald Cox, adm of Amos Turner. Filed 9 Jul 1831. John Smith and Franceis Smith his wife, Penny Turner, Thomas Turner, John Turner, Elizabeth Jane Turner, Benjamin W. Turner, Thomas Evant and Mary Evant his wife. Note: Mary had married first Benjamin Exum. Bill for account. Amos Turner died 1813 leaving considerable estate and heirs at law; Francis Turner, Penny Turner, Thomas Turner, John Turner, Elizabeth Jane Turner, Benjamin W. Turner, Mary Turner and Charlotte Turner, children of Amos Turner. Francis Turner has married John Smith; Mary Turner has married Thomas Evant (note: probably Avant). Separate answer of Archibald Cox shows that James Turner one of the children of intestate died intestate since since the death of Amos Turner and two of the complainants John Turner and Thomas Turner left the country about 10 years ago. 11 Oct 1823. Philip Bartel under oath 10 Feby 1832 states that he was present at sale of estate of Amos Turner and saw Benjamin Axum "who had married Mary Turner now Mary Avant one of the complainants soon after he had purchased a gun for $20.00... ."

HEIRS OF HENRY HUGGINS TO MARY PITMAN Deed Abstract Marion County, SC Deedbook LL/694 17 Dec 1870 20-3/4 acres Theophilus Huggins and other heirs of Henry Huggins to Mary Pitman... land on SW side Little Pee Dee River and on Bob's Branch, bounded NE by R.R. Rogers, W by Lenora Huggins & Theophilus Huggins, S by Enos Harrelson. Platt made by N.B. McQueen, 16 Dec 1870. [signed] T. Huggins Cenith X Cribb T.W. Huggins Lenora X Huggins Sarahann X Harrelson Marthea Pitman Mathea X Jones Mary X Pitman (sic) Appy X Huggins Jr. Witnesses: L.L. Rogers Enos X Harrelson Bethel Rogers Recorded 28 Dec 1883 =========================== Abstracted by Jo Church Dickerson October, 2000 A similar deed by the same parties to SarahAnn Harrelson is recorded at Marion Deedbook LL/695. I am extremely interested in pinpointing the exact location of Bob's Branch. >From other land records, I know it is somewhere between Little Pee Dee River and Buck Swamp, near Huggins Bridge and Fork. Other land records show that it was on lands owned previously owned by John Huggins, father of Henry, above, and may have been part of the tract granted to Benjamin Harrelson, son of Joseph. If anyone can identify the exact location of Bob's Branch for me, I would be eternally grateful. Learning what became of the land above deeded to Mary Pitman - who owns that land now - would help immensely. Jo Church Dickerson

Old John Elvington lived on the road from Gaddy's Mills to Nichols ; he raised a large family, sons and daughters of the sons, Zadoc Elvington still survives, and lives near the old homestead; has no children; had two sons, whom he lost in the war. In some respects he is a prodigy, which will not be further alluded to. He has made and has money, which it is said he does not much enjoy, except the satisfaction of knowing that he has it. He married one of the ten daughters of the late John Goodyear (all of whom, it is said, were good women, and made industrious and frugal housewives). Old man John Elvington was a good citizen. His other sons were William, John (commonly called Jack), and Owen. They are all dead. Owen was the father of our excellent and thrifty good citizen, George W. Elvington ; there may have been another son or two, not now remembered. He had several daughters ; one the wife of the late Henry Huggins ; one the wife of the late James Scott (she still survives) ; one the wife of the late Eli Scott, and perhaps others. The old gentleman was remarkable m one respect; he told the writer, when he was over seventy years of age, that he never saw a seed-tick or a red-bug in his life ; spectacles did him no good, yet his eyesight had not failed him and he could see as well in his old age as he ever could; his eyes were very peculiar-did not look like the ordinary eye-they sparkled or twinkled. ;
