84502 No children of Benjamin and Anne Blackman have been proven, as far as I know, but the census records show they probably had several. John Blackman and Gideon Blackman are possible sons of Benjamin. Charles Phillips and Durwood Blackmon (deceased) list James, Samuel and Gideon as children of Benjamin. These three all went to Warren Co, MS.
1 Unknown Son (1774/1784) John Blackman
2 Unknown Son (1774/1784) Gideon Blackman
3 Unknown Daughter (1774/1784)
4 Unknown Son (1784/1790) James Blackman
5 Unknown Son (1784/1790) Samuel Blackman
6 Unknown Son (1784/1790)
7 Unknown Daughter (1784/1790)
8 Unknown Daughter (1784/1790)
9 Unknown Daughter (1784/1790)

1 Unknown Son born ca 1774/1784, presumably in that section of Georgetown District that later became Marion District. A child this age was with Benjamin Blackman on the 1790 and 1800 census. No likely candidates appeared on the 1810 Marion census.
One possible candidate for this child is John Blackman (c1775/76). He witnessed one of Benjamin's deeds in 1793, and he was listed next to Benjamin on the 1800 census. The fact that John was head of household in 1800 is a flaw in this theory though, since it seems that all five of Benjamin's sons from 1790 were still with him in 1800, but there seemed to be problems with those two census records anyway, so that still may leave room for John. If not, then this child is unaccounted for.

2 Unknown Son born ca 1774/1784, presumably in that section of Georgetown District that later became Marion District. A child this age was with Benjamin Blackman on the 1790 and 1800 census. No likely candidates appeared on the 1810 Marion census.
This son could easily be Gideon Blackman who witnessed a 1796 deed of Benjamin Blackman. Charles Phillips shared some data on Gideon. Gideon, who, like his suspected brothers James and Samuel, went from SC to Warren Co, MS. In the 1830's Gideon moved to New Orleans, and sometime later (before 1847) moved to TN.

3 Unknown Daughter born ca 1774/1784, presumably in that section of Georgetown District that later became Marion District. For the 1790 census, Benjamin Blackman only had one female listed, so assuming that was his wife, that leaves no room for this daughter. However the 1790 census could have been in error (very likely). A child this age was with Benjamin Blackman on the 1800 census. No likely candidates appeared on the 1810 Marion census.

4 Unknown Son born ca 1784/1790, presumably in that section of Georgetown District that later became Marion District. A child this age was with Benjamin Blackman on the 1790 and 1800 census. No likely candidates appeared on the 1810 Marion census.
Charles Phillips has a candidate for this son: James Blackman (c1782-1816) who died in Warren Co, MS. He, along with Samuel (below), moved from SC to Natchez District, MS ca 1806 and was in Warren Co, MS shortly afterwards, where he died.
5 Unknown Son born ca 1784/1790, presumably in that section of Georgetown District that later became Marion District. A child this age was with Benjamin Blackman on the 1790 and 1800 census. No likely candidates appeared on the 1810 Marion census.
One possible candidate for this child is Samuel Blackman who died in the 1840's in Leake Co, MS. Charles Phillips believes Samuel could be a son of Benjamin. It seems quite reasonable to place Samuel here. Samuel moved from SC (presumably Marion County) to Natchez District, MS before 1810. By 1816 he was in Warren Co, MS. By 1820 he had moved south to Franklin Co, MS. By 1840 he was north again in Leake Co, MS. Samuel named a son "Gideon" and another one "Benjamin" and another one "James" and one "Solomon". All these are Marion Co, SC Blackman names, and other suspected Marion Blackman's wound up in some of these same counties at the same time, so it seems reasonable that this Samuel Blackman is indeed a son of Benjamin Blackman. More proof would be helpful though.

6 Unknown Son born ca 1784/1790, presumably in that section of Georgetown District that later became Marion District. A child this age was with Benjamin Blackman on the 1790 and 1800 census. No likely candidates appeared on the 1810 Marion census.

7 Unknown Daughter born ca 1784/1790, presumably in that section of Georgetown District that later became Marion District.

8 Unknown Daughter born ca 1784/1790, presumably in that section of Georgetown District that later became Marion District.

9 Unknown Daughter born ca 1784/1790, presumably in that section of Georgetown District that later became Marion District.

Hall, Marcus Lynn

Marcus Lynn Hall departed this earthly life on Wednesday, November 19, 2008. Faithful Christian, precious husband, father and "Granddad," devoted friend. He was "... steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord." (1 Cor. 15:58)

Visitation is scheduled for 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, November 23, 2008, at Lloyd James Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Monday, November 24, 2008, at Lloyd James Funeral Home with Perry Hall and Jay Culpepper officiating and under the song direction of Kalon Ainsworth. Military graveside services immediately following at Tyler Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers will be Larry Golden, Donny Golden, Wayne Golden, Raynard Screws, Doug Mullings, Anthony Mullings, Stephen Mullings, and Timothy Mullings.

Marcus Lynn Hall was born June 8, 1943 and was born again on August 14, 1958. He was preceded in death by his parents J.D. Hall, Jr. and Adriel Joella Robinson Hall of Jasper, Texas, and three grandchildren, Baby Baker, Halle Jase Baker, and Marcie Kay Baker. His life will be forever cherished by his loving wife, Dianna Kay Hall of Flint, Texas (formerly of Whitehouse, Texas); his children: son, Steven Hall of Kailua Kona, Hawaii; son, Darren Hall of New York, N.Y.; son, Michael Hall, his wife Candace and their children Parker and Kenzi of Whitehouse, Texas; son, Christopher Hall, his wife Katrina and their children Alexander, Delaini, Natalie, Bailey and Riddick of Troup, Texas; and daughter, Kaylyn Baker, her husband Jason and their daughter Chloe of Arlington, Texas; 3 brothers, 2 sisters, 7 brothers-in-law and 7 sisters-in-law: Joella and Harry Pickup, Robert and Ruth Hall, Don and Joann Hall, Linda Gilliam, Roger and Jane Hall, Doug and Sherry Mullings, Raynard and Sandra Screws, Jimmy and Weegi Golden, Larry Golden, Donny Golden, and Wayne and Stacy Golden; father and mother-in-law, Audie and Opal Golden; dozens of nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. Marcus was employed by the City of Jacksonville for over 18 years and was a faithful member of Southwest Church of Christ. A memorial has been established in his memory for those who wish to contribute: Marcus Hall Memorial c/o Southwest church of Christ, 13269 State Highway 155 South, Tyler, Texas 75703; 903-534-8665.

After God and His will, Marcus' family was the most important thing to him. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren making up bedtime stories and singing lullabies and nursery rhymes. He had a deep love for studying the scriptures and of music, and had a magnificent voice, whether he was making up little songs for his children and grandchildren, leading singing in church services, or his beautiful singing in numerous weddings and funerals. He had such a tender and loving spirit, and was always ready to help with his gentle wisdom. He portrayed "... love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control ..." (Gal 5:22) in all aspects of his life. Marcus can truly say, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing." (2 Tim. 4:7-8). He will be dearly missed, but our hearts are comforted to know he is in paradise.

84523 On December 24, 1996, Eunice told her daughter, Sandra, that her family lived on (1) the John Way place, (2) the McGahey place, (3) bought the Sidney Henderson place before moving to the Duck Creek place. At Duck Creek, her father, Grady Kennedy, had a peach orchard. Eunice said they used to go by wagon from Sid Henderson's place to Palestine to do business about the Henderson place farm before Grady lost it. (Sidney Henderson was the son of John Henderson.)

When Eunice's family lived on the Kennedy place, they were in Red Springs. When they moved to the Way place, they were in Saline. At Red Springs, she walked to school with the Huey children, mostly girls; there were only 2 boys. It was three miles to Red Springs school. The Huey children moved to Saline after they did.

Eunice started in Saline school in the third grade. Saline Creek divides Saline and Red Springs.

Eunice went to stay with her Aunt Lottie (Lottie Mae McGahey Whisenhunt) in Gresham, Texas, when Aunt Lottie's baby was born. She rode the train from Lindale to Tyler, the route between Tyler, Lindale, and Mineola. That is where she met her husband, Bennie Clyde McKay. They married after Clem Dickerson and Grady Kennedy married. Eunice quit school after her mother, Pearl, died and kept the house and younger kids. - from Sandra McKay Coulter

Although John died in Smith Co, TX, his wife carried him back to California for burial after the service in Smith Co. Either his birth day or death date may be in error since he was in the US Marines at the time of his death and would have been about 19 when he died.

84532 Recorded October 16, 1995 by Sandra Joy McKay Coulter:

"While visiting Aunt Julia and Uncle Rufus at their Appletree Lane home in Tyler, Uncle Rufus told me about his hobo days during the depressions. This was about five years before he married Aunt Julia (Kennedy). He was not finding work in Lindale that paid more than 10 cents a day. He hopped a train to California, where he picked fruit. When that work was done, he went to Oregon and Washington (State). He picked apples and worked the wheat fields in Washington. The wheat was planted on the mountain side. The terrain was too steep for a tractor, but they had a special combine pulled by 16 horses. The wheat was planted in a circle around the mountain.

"Uncle Rufus came back to Lindale to visit a couple of times. Once when he came back, his two brothers, Horace and Perkins, went back with him.

"In California, Uncle Rufus worked for a lady. She had bought her son a truck, but all the son did was haul kids back and forth to town. She decided to use the truck to make money and hired Uncle Rufus to drive it for her. (I didn't ask, but I suppose it was to haul fruit.)

"During the depression in California, he helped dig up peach trees for farmers who couldn't afford the water bill for watering the orchards.

"When he first hopped a train to California, his brother took him to an engineer that he knew and told him Uncle Rufus would be on it. The man said for him to just stay out of sight. The engineer was asked to pass on the information when the train crew changed in El Paso. Uncle Rufus rode on the landing between the engine and the next car.

"Once, when he and his brothers had saved $800 a piece, they were hopping trains. They rolled bills up very small to stick in the small, deep pockets of their overalls. Then they put a pencil in the pocket.

"Uncle Rufus said he tried art for a while in California. He painted shirts. On the back of one, he wrote 'Want to monkey around.' The girls would get up close to read it, walk off and come back again to follow him.

"He also painted a yellow rain slicker to look like a man's feet sticking out the bottom of a coverlet and his hands and head sticking out the other. I can't remember what he wrote on it, but something that ended with 'chicks.'

"Aunt Julia was listening to these stories and just sat there shaking her head."

Winnnie Mae Wilson, born in 1904, (age 25 in 1930) appears on the 1930 census for Travis Co, TX as an Inmate at the Austin State School on Camp Mabry Rd. The census was taken April 11, 1930. Ruby McClenny Kirby told Rex that it was thought that Winnie Mae was mentally retarded and was sent tot he State School. Since she was still living at home in 1920, 15 years of age, she would have been placed in the State School after 1910. Rex Kirby has an old pencil note to the effect that after Winnie was in the State School several years, it was discovered that she was hard of hearing and for that reason had not learned to speak clearly. After corrective measures were takento improve her hearing, she learned rapidly and was sent home. Rex does not know what year this happened nor if this version or condirion is correct. - hat
