Doyle L. Grant

Doyle L. Grant, 79, of Nantahala Community, Topton, died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2006, at his residence.
He was a native of Macon County where he had lived most of his life. He was the son of the late Lonnie L. and Ella Kilpatrick Grant.
He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the US Army. He retired after 20 years from Baker Furniture and was a member of the Briartown Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Mildred Morgan Grant; a daughter, Vivian Douthit of Topton; a son, Steve Grant of Waynesville; three brothers, John Grant and Allen Grant both of Lenoir and Neal Grant of Marble; and one grandson and four great- grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 3, in the Chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Andrews, with the Rev. Marlin McMahan and Eugene Taylor officiating. Interment was at 10 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 4, in the Briartown Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Shane Gregory, Barry Fuller, Gerald Dills, Doug Bryant, Alan Bolick and Sidney May.
The family requests memorials be made in memory of Doyle L. Grant to the Nantahala Fire & Rescue, 19036 Wayah Road, Aquone, NC 28781.
Ivie Funeral Home, Andrews, was in charge of all arrangements.

Arden - Beatrice Graham Norton, 70, of 502 Long Shoals Road, Arden, died Thursday, March 23, 2006, in a local nursing center.

She was born in Graham County and was the daughter of the late Goldman and Delia Hyde Graham. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Becky Reese and stepson, Ronald Norton. She was a member of Skyland Baptist Church, where she served in the nursery for over 30 years.

She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Dennis Norton of Arden; daughter, Karen Duncan and husband, Ray, of Horse Shoe; four grandchildren, Kayla Lowe, Graham Duncan, Gary and his wife, Leana Norton, and Angie Norton; three great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Taylor and Gracie Norton; seven sisters, Frances Autrey of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Frankie Crisp of Robbinsville, Clairene Brown of Arden, Christine Griffin of Roxboro, Brenda Blythe of Perry, Ga., Jean Dean of Charlotte and Ruby Pittman of Taylors, S.C.; brother, Bill Graham of Albuquerque, N.M.

The funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Skyland Baptist Church with the Rev. Perry Brindley officiating.

Burial will follow in Roberts Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian on Long Shoals Road.
