  !NOTES:John Garrett killed his father-in-law Peter Stroud in 1834. He claimed accident, others claimed murder. There was a trial apparently, but those records are lost. He was 28 in 1834, so born ca 1806. - Thanks to Deb Brodbeck for locating newspaper and other records on this (2013); !CENSUS:1820 Burke Co., NC p. 85 John Garret age 16-25 (1794/1804) 000100-00100-0-0 *Next to William Garret; !CENSUS:1830 x !NOTES:Shot and killed his father in law Peter Stroud in 1834. Claimed accident, was arrested for murder. Found guilty, sentenced to hang in Dec 1835.; !DEATH:11 Dec 1835 by hanging. At least that was his sentence and the date it was supposed to be carried out. I found no record that it actually happened as scheduled.;
