(3) Reported captured at Winchester. Report dated 19 Sep 1864.
(4) Died at Battle of Winchester per "North Carolina Troops Volume 4, page 728-761, 69th Regiment, by W.W. Stringfield, Lieutenant Colonel". Family tradition states that he died while his leg was being amputated. He is buried somewhere in the Winchester, VA area. His death wasn't reported in his Civil War Service Records.;
