12 Sep 1776 John Johnson, receipt to Thomas Madison for L3, 15s for linen for Cherokee expedition. Witnessed by Edward Cathey, D.S.
* The Cherokee Expedition was in 1776. Col. William Christian commanded the Virginia volunteers. He was born in Augusta Co., VA and resided in Fincastle in 1776.
* Thomas Madison (1746-1798) resided in Botetourt Co., VA in 1776.
* "D.S." can mean Deputy Surveyor or Deputy Sheriff.;
!NOTES:I found no Cathey deeds in Botetourt through 1800;
