Mr. Campbell was a life member of Winnsboro Masonic Lodge, the VFW, the Hejaz Shrine, the American Legion, and The Somerset Chapter Magna Charta Barons. He was instrumental in the promotion and organization of the Greenville and Pee Dee Chapters of South Carolina Genealogical Society, Colonel Elias Earle Historic District (Greenville), and Old Ebenezer Memorial and Historical Association of Marion, S.C. He served in the U.S Navy, World War II, 1941-1946, serving in Naval Air Group aboard the USS Hornet CV-8 (the ship that launched Doolittle Raiders), and later on Guadalcanal and Russell Islands. >>Mr. Campbell was a unique and special person to his family and all who knew him. His energy in pursuing causes for heritage, freedom and justice were well known. He leaves a void that cannot be filled. >>In addition to his wife, he is also survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Gayenell Campbell (Tim) Gull, of Troy, N.C.; sons and daughters-in-law, Wade "Bud" (Sharon) Yeager of Dawsonville, Ga., Bill (Gayle) Yeager of Grand Rapids, Minn., John (Bobbi) Campbell of Corinth, Miss., and Heyward (Denise) Campbell of Taylors; 13 grandchildren, Kelli Yeager Rice, Shawn Yeager, Sherri Yeager Majerle, Debbie Yeager Schoenborn, Josh Yeager, Andy Yeager, Shelby Gull, Robert Campbell, Thomas Gull, Colin Campbell, Megan Campbell, Amelia Cook and Evan Cook; five great-grandchildren, Hannah Nelson, Luke Majerle, Ben Majerle, Katelyn Schoenborn and Joseph Majerle; and siblings, Barbara C. Noon of Hampton, Ga., John C. Campbell of Edison, N.J., Joyce C. Gooden of Elizabethtown, N.C., Fred Y. Campbell of Gatesville, Texas, Thara Ann C. Watson of Chappell Hill, Texas, and Mary Ruth C. Youngblood of Waco, Texas. Two brothers, Donald R. Campbell and Robert Kennemore, predeceased him. >>In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations in memory of Mr. Campbell be sent to First Baptist Church Media Ministry, 250 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29306-5158. >>Funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug. 10, 2002, at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown, at 10:30 a.m., with visitation prior, beginning at 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Graveside services with full military honors will be held at 6 p.m., at Old Ebenezer Church, located at the intersection of Dudley Road and Old Ebenezer Road, in Marion County>>provided by Shelia Berry in Latta, Dillon County SC
