- !OBITUARY:
Mrs. Virginia Barnes Thacker, age 91, of Blue Ridge and formerly of Rome, passed away on Monday morning, September 7, 2015, in a Blue Ridge nursing facility following an extended illness.
She was born in Marietta, GA, on August 14, 1924, daughter of the late William Webster Barnes and the late Nettie Adams Barnes. She had lived most of her life in Rome and was a 1972 graduate of North Georgia Business College. She was also an active member of Riverside Baptist Church and later, Garden Lakes Baptist Church, singing in both church choirs. In 1992, she moved to Blue Ridge, GA where she became a member of Blue Ridge First Baptist Church and also sang in the choir. In 2001, she became a resident of a convalescent center where she resided until her death. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Carl E. Thacker, Sr., by a daughter, Carolyn E. Thacker, by a son, Carl E. Thacker, Jr., and by her siblings, Lucille B. Stephenson, Loyce Barnes, Winfred Barnes, and Silva B. Reeps.
Survivors include a daughter, Myra George Mason, Blue Ridge; 2 sons, Ronald H. "Ron" Thacker, Sr., and his wife, Linda, Lindale, and Richard G. "Rick" Thacker, and his wife, Sherry, Griffin; 8 grandchildren, Lori Chastain (Carroll), Ellijay, Burke L. George (Suzanne), Charlotte, NC, Brian E. George (Cindy) Blairsville, Ronald H. Thacker, Jr. (Jennifer) Acworth, Nathan D. Thacker, Lindale, Brandon K. Thacker (Carrie), Zebulon, Lauren T. Stover (Jonathan), Zebulon, and Whitney T. Laggis (Christopher), Griffin; 10 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive.
Graveside and interment services will be held on Wednesday, September 9, 2015, at 11am from the graveside in East View Cemetery with her cousin, Dr. Talmadge Barnes officiating.
The family will assemble at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, at 10am Wednesday prior to the service.
