!NOTES:Birth place listed as Tennessee on Thomas' 1850, 1860, 1870, 1880 and 1900 census records. However, his Union Civil War Enlistment and Discharge lists his birth place a Rutherford Co., NC. His parents were seemingly from Rutherford Co., NC, so that might explain the mixup. On the other hand it may not have been a mixup, but a deliberate fib. He enlisted in the Union Army (under his Brother-in-law Cpt Van Stewart) after deserting the Confederate Army. Perhaps he was fibbing to avoid association with Union Co., GA? Or perhaps Van Stewart wrote it down and he actually thought Thomas was born in Rutherford Co., NC since his parents were.

!NOTES:James Arthur Henderson (formerly Scroggins) was the illegitimate son of Alice Scroggins by William Henderson, a nephew of Thomas M. Henderson, thus making the child Thomas's Grand Nephew. Family tradition says that Alice tried to kill the child by stoning him to death, but was stopped before she could do serious harm.;
