!OBITUARY:
Delton Starkey, 93, of Pierre, died Jan. 6, 2010, at Maryhouse Nursing Care Facility.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 10, 2010, at First United Methodist Church in Pierre, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Monday, Jan. 11, at First United Methodist Church.
Delton Everett Starkey was born on Feb. 3, 1916, to Karl Henry and Nellie Esther (Schulz) Starkey near Wessington Springs. When he was five-years old they moved to the Canning area.

Delton graduated from Canning High School in 1934. Delton went to Wessington Springs Jr. College and Spearfish Normal School earning a teachers degree. He taught rural schools for seventeen years.
He was united in marriage to Phyllis Pauline Uecker in Harrold on Dec. 22, 1940. To this union two children were born – Phyllis and Lawrence (Larry).
After Delton quit teaching he farmed for many years and worked for the Farm Service Agency for forty three years. He was active in the Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star and the Methodist Church in Harrold.
He is survived by his wife Pauline, daughter Phyllis (Robert) Mills, Fort Pierre, Larry (Myra) Starkey, Wessington Springs; grandchildren, Sheldon Mills, Spearfish, Judy Mills, Southfield, Mich., Terry, Luke and Laretta Starkey, Wessington Springs; two sisters, Rose Baker and June Mangus and one brother Lowell Starkey.
