MULLINS -- Mr. Frank Martin "Farmer Frank" Porter, 75, widower of Elizabeth
Martin Porter, died Tuesday, May 27, 2003, at Marion County Medical Center
after an illness.
Funeral services will be at 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 30, at the Chapel of
Cox-Collins Funeral Home, with the Rev. Talmadge Cullipher officiating.
Burial will follow in Red Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery, directed by
Cox-Collins Funeral Home.
Mr. Porter was born Jan. 3, 1928, in Marion County, a son of the late Johnny
Owens and Elizabeth Brinson Porter. Mr. Porter was a retired farmer, a
musician and a disc jokey for WJAY radio station for many years. He was a
U.S. Navy veteran, having served during World War II. He was a member of VFW
Post No. 6122. Mr. Porter also was a member of Wildlife Action and Woodmen
of the World. Mr. Porter attended First Faith Assembly Church.
Surviving Mr. Porter are his children, Dan Porter of Mullins, Maxie Porter
of Marion, Patricia P. Calhoun of Marion, Jean P. Strickland of Nichols,
Gina P. Turner of Marion and Brandon Porter of Mullins; five grandchildren;
five great-grandchildren; a brother, J.W. Brinson of Ayden, N.C.; two
sisters, Eunice Tetterton of Greenville, N.C., and Janice Short of Whittier,
N.C.; two half sisters, Jeanette Rabon of Myrtle Beach and JoAnn Taylor of
Odessa, Texas; and a special companion, Gloria Terwilliger of Marion.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Cox-Collins
Funeral Home and other times at the home of Patricia and Kelly Calhoun, 1116
Carroll Road, Marion.
