Dempsey Grant's wife Nancy was married to Mr. Grant before 1850, and an 1856 deed refers to her as the former widow of Jacob Barnes. However there is a Jacob Barnes (c1778) on the 1850, 1840 and 1830 census in Johnston. Could that be her husband? If so, was he still alive while she was married to Dempsey Grant by 1850? Or is that a different Jacob Barnes?;
