!NOTES:William was born in Watauga Co., NC per the 1860 census and his Civil War records. Watauga didn't actually exist yet when he was born in 1830. It was still part of Ashe and other counties. His father had land in Ashe (now Watauga) so it is likely that is where he was born.;
