!NOTES:I would assume that Laurena isn't a Davis by birth, but rather a widow and that her husband died before 1850. Unfortunately I have no clue who he might have been. The only record I have for her is the 1850 census wherein she was residing with George & Nancy Holcombe in Murphy, Cherokee Co., NC. I don't know her relationship to them.
* George W. Holcombe was on the 1840 census in Cherokee Co., NC. His houshold contained one male and one female, both in their 40's, and one female in her 20's. No one Laurena's age was with them. The only Davis in Cherokee Co., NC in 1840 was George Douglass Davis, formerly of Buncombe (now Henderson) Co., NC. I don't suspect any connection between Laurena and George D. Davis.
* Marriage Bond: 15 May 1834 Surry Co., NC George Holcomb & Nancy Chappel. This George appears to be George L. Holcomb who remained in Surry.
* Marriage Bond: 10 Sep 1835 Surry Co., NC George Holcomb & Ann Lang. "Ann" and "Nancy" are often used interchangeably, so perhaps this is same George who Laurena Davis was residing with in 1850. It is certainly notable that a George Long (aka Lang) married an Ann Davis in 1784 in Surry Co., NC. This shows a roundabout connection between the Holcombe and Davis families in Surry County.
* I found no Davis marriages in Surry where the wife was named Laurena or similar. I also looked elsewhere in North Carolina with no luck.;

* George & Nancy Holcombe are by themselves in Benton Co., AR in 1860. Their apparent son William from 1850 is also in Arkansas with a wife Frances age 27. I wonder if she is same as Frances Aiken 17 who was with them in 1850? Name and age match, but doesn't mean same person. Couldn't find Madison Aiken in 1860.;
