Glata Matheson Lee, 87, of Longview, Wash., formerly of Robbinsville, passed away Monday, March 29, 2010 surrounded by two of her daughters and the love of her family.
Lee was born in 1922 and raised in Topton, being the youngest of nine children and the last living child of the late Joe Matheson and Emily Arzelia Wright Matheson.
In addition to her parents and siblings, she was preceded in death in 1985 by her husband of 43 years, Ted Lee of Robbinsville; and a great-grandson, Jeremy Day of Nantahala.
A homemaker of the Baptist faith, Glata was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. Her old-fashion wisdom and wit, and her love of her family will be greatly missed by those who loved her.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Beverly Lee of North Pole, Alaska; daughter, Camilla “Millie” Southerland and Bob of Longview; daughter, Nancy Lee and Dee of Mineral Bluff, Ga.; daughter and son-in-law, Karen “Kay and Larry Patterson of Lavonia, Ga.; grandchildren, Ted Lee and wife Katie of Ireland; Brian Lee and wife Michelle of Fairbanks, Alaska; Jeff Hyde and wife Patty of Salem, S.C.; Tina Hyde, Zelerie Rose Rogers, son-in-law, Ricky Rogers; Glata Grindstaff and husband Larry, all of Robbinsville; Con Holder of Anchorage, Alaska; Larry Lee Patterson and wife Treva of Lavonia, Ga.; Nancy Buffington and husband Steve of Martin, Ga.; great-grandchildren, Tamara Colvin and husband Brandon, Keri Grindstaff, Clay Grindstaff, Alison Grindstaff and Dylan Rogers all of Robbinsville, Blake Buffington of Lavonia, Ga.; great-great-grandchildren, Michelle and Eli Colvin of Robbinsville; brother-in-law Ernest Reighard of Dallas, Ga.; sister-in-law, Betty Matheson of California; nieces, Ramona Griffith, Judy Reighard, Tamara Matheson, Elvia Mae, Rita Ann, Gearldene Hardin, Betty Wynn; nephews, Buzz Matheson, Sonny Reighard, Ike Reighard, Wendell Owenby and Brandon Matheson.
The family will be holding a memorial service 10 a.m. Saturday, April 17 at Tuskeegee Baptist Church.
