"From what records we have, William BRYSON came to Lancaster Co, PA from Ireland. He married a Miss HOLMES, to whom six sons were born and reared. All fought through the Revolutionary War and came out alive. (They claimed he had gone from England to Ireland). Of the sons, it seems; James; William; Daniel; Andrew; and John settled in Western North Carolina and upper South Carolina.
James, my Great Grandfather, raised his family in Buncombe County, now Haywood County, near Waynesville, NC. My grandfather Samuel settled over on the Little Tennessee River where Uncle Byers, my father's brother, lived in later years, and where Robert BRYSON, son of Byers, now lives. Samuel married Rebecca CALER. They reared two sons, my father, James BRYSON, and the above mentioned Samuel Byers BRYSON; also five daughters; Martha, who married John RAMSEY; Sallie, who married Calvin SHEPHERD, a brother to my mother. She died when one child was born; Ella married William PARISH and soon moved to Texas and lived there the remainder of their lives; many descendants no doubt are in that state; Elizabeth married Luther DUVALL, the mother of Sim and Byers DUVALL and Martha MEADOWS, all deceased; Margaret married Joseph MORRISON, mother of Jennie McGAHA.
The claim is that three brothers came over together, but we have only the family of William in our possession. My father, James BRYSON born September 15, 1823 and died June 6, 1904; my mother Emalie SHEPHERD, born December 11, 1826, died September 25, 1920. The SHEPHERDs I think came from Germany; Thomas Sr, my great Grandfather; Thomas Jr, my grandfather, Thomas Jr, married Narcissa WELCH, daughter of Joseph WELCH."

(James Bryson 1823/Elizabeth Shepherd - Samuel D. Bryson 1795/Rebecca Caylor - James Holmes Bryson 1740-50/Sarah Countryman - William Bryson 1720/Isabella Holmes)I dont know when this History was written, but obviously sometime before 1940. This history seems very accurate. Ill comment on it section by section
From what records we have, William BRYSON came to Lancaster Co, PA from Ireland.
The above statement is generally believed to be true. William Bryson did marry a Miss Holmes (Isabella Holmes), and they did settle first in Lancaster Co, PA. They had six sons, who were all alleged to have fought in the Revolution. He left out Samuel in the last sentence, and that is probably because he was the only one of the six brothers who left the area, settling in Tennessee.
James, my Great Grandfather, raised his family in Buncombe County, now Haywood County, near Waynesville, NC. My grandfather Samuel settled over on the Little Tennessee River where Uncle Byers, my fathers brother, lived in later years, and where Robert BRYSON, son of Byers, now lives.
All of the above is correct.
The claim is that three brothers came over together, but we have only the family of William in our possession.
Various researchers have tried to identify the "three brothers", but with no great success. Nearly every American family has this same tradition about "three brothers" being the immigrants.
My father, James BRYSON born September 15, 1823 and died June 6, 1904; my mother Emalie SHEPHERD, born December 11, 1826, died September 25, 1920. The SHEPHERDs I think came from Germany; Thomas Sr, my great Grandfather; Thomas Jr, my grandfather, Thomas Jr, married Narcissa WELCH, daughter of Joseph WELCH.
The above seems correct, but I have not researched the Shepherds, so I dont know how accurate those statements are.
