I (Marty Grant) don't know how or if I'm related to the Joseph Campbell family. I am very interested in him though.

Joseph Campbell was born ca 1804/1805 in Marion Dist, SC, possibly in Hillsboro Township (now Dillon County). I'm quite sure that he is a son of Catherine Campbell, based on strong circumstantial evidence, but no direct proof. She had a son that age with her on the 1810 and 1820 census. In 1830 Joseph was a head of household, and had a woman Catherine's age with him (and she wasn't listed elsewhere that year). She lived next door to him in 1850. All circumstantial, but compelling enough.

Joseph Campbell married Charity --- ca 1820/1828 in Marion Dist, SC. I have no clues on her possible maiden name.

Joseph was listed on the 1830 census in Marion Dist, SC. This census was alphabetized, so there is no way to determine who his neighbors were. An older woman was with him on this census, and the perfect age to be Catherine Campbell, whom I believe is his mother.

Joseph Campbell was listed on the 1840 census in Marion Dist, SC. He wasn't real close to any other Campbell's, though he was just one page from Jeremiah Campbell. (who wasn't too far away in 1850 either). Based on several of Joseph's neighbors, it seems he was in Hillsboro Township.

Joseph Campbell and family were listed on the 1850 census in Marion Dist, SC, seemingly in the  same area (Hillsboro Township, now Dillon County). He was listed next door to the Daniel and Agness Carmichael family. They had an elderly Catherine Campbell (age 80) residing with them. Presumably the mother of both Agness and Joseph Campbell.

I didn't find Joseph Campbell in the 1860 census, nor his wife or any of their children. I don't know what became of them, or where they moved to, or if they all died (unlikely for all of them to die!).

There was an "R. H. Campbell" in 1860 seemingly in the right area, and the roughly the right age to be Robert Campbell, son of Joseph, but I'm not real sure that is who it is.
