I (Marty Grant) am a 4th Great Grand nephew of Nancy Ann Campbell and John Huggins.
Nancy Ann Campbell was born 14 Mar 1775 in the Maiden Down Bay area of Marion County, SC. At that time this was part of Georgetown District, until 1798 when Marion District was created. Nancy Ann Campbell is a daughter of John Campbell and Nancy Ann Cribb. Her birth date was recorded in the Diary of Simeon Campbell (her nephew). Simeon Campbell also included Nancy Ann in the list of children of John Campbell and Ann Cribb.
Here is an abstract of what Simeon Campbell listed for this family:
pg 25 "The Births of our ancestors. The Campbell Family. John Campbell was born Jan 6th 1752. He was an emigrant from Scotland. Ann, his wife, who was a Cribb was born Dec the 1st 1757. To them were born: Ann was born March the 14th 1775, Mary was born March the 15, 1777, John was born June the 9th 1779, James was born Nov the 7th 1780, Gadi was born May the 25th 1784, Jeremiah was born Nov the 28, 1791, Elizabeth was born Feb the 27 1794, Theophilus was born Oct the 20th 1796"
W.W. Sellers also mentioned her in his book A History of Marion County, South Carolina by W.W. Sellers, Esq. 1902, though he mistakenly listed the father as "James" instead of "John".
Pg 486 - 488 "The projenitor of this family was named James. He came from Virginia in the eighteenth century, married and had five sons, John, James, Jr, Jerre, Gadi and Theophilus; and one daughter, Nancy Ann, who became the wife of old John Huggins, of Huggins Bridge on Little Pee Dee, and who has already been noticed herein among the Huggins family; and Mary, who married Willis Huggins, cousin of old John, and Elizabeth, who never married."
Nancy Ann was apparently home with her father John Campbell on the 1790 census.
She married John Huggins before 1799 in Marion Dist, SC. John was born ca 1765/70 presumably in the Huggins Bridge area, just a little north of where the Campbell's lived. I don't know who his parents were. There were only three Huggins households in the area in 1790, including Mark, Nathan and Samuel Huggins. Of these, Mark had no sons, so he is not a suspect. Nathan had 1 son, and Samuel had 5 sons, so one of these could be John's father.
Though John and Nancy Ann were married ca 1798/99, they were not listed on the 1800 census. A Hannah Huggins was listed next door to Nancy Ann's father John Campbell in 1800. The only other Huggins household in 1800 Marion was Levi Huggins. Hannah's household was quite full, so she could be the mother of John, with John and wife living with her. I don't know enough about this family yet to be sure though.
On 10 Dec 1805 Benjamin Harrelson and wife Elizabeth sold 175 acres of land to John Huggins. This was on the south side of the Little Pee Dee River. Witnesses included Levey (X) Huggins and William (X) Cook. Levi Huggins could be a brother of John Huggins. (Marion Co, SC Deed Book C page 253).
John Huggins was listed on the 1810 census in Marion Dist, SC.

John Huggins was listed on the 1811 Marion tax list, and charged with 33 cents tax,
John Huggins was also listed on the 1814 Marion tax list and charged with $1.47 tax.
On 7 Mar 1818 Lewis Huggins sold 25 acres to John Huggins. The land was in Buck Swamp. Witnesses included Lewis (X) Mares and John Campbell. This John Campbell was John Huggins' brother-in-law, and the Lewis Huggins could be his brother. (Marion Co, SC Deed Book G page 145).
John Huggins was listed as a head of household on the 1820 census. This census was alphabetized, so we can't be sure who his neighbors were, but he was most likely in the Huggins Bridge area (Reaves or Hillsboro Township)

John Huggins was listed on the 1830 census in Marion Dist, SC. This census was alphabetized, so we can't be sure who his neighbors were, but he was most likely in the Huggins Bridge area (Reaves or Hillsboro Township)

John Huggins was listed on the 1840 census in Marion Dist, SC. This census was not alphabetized, so we can determine where James was, and who his neighbors were. He was clearly in the Huggins Bridge area (Reaves or Hillsboro Township). Among his neighbors were several families known to live in that area.

On 7 Mar 1845 "The Heirs of John Campbell Sr, decd" sold 50 acres of land to Gadi Campbell. This was land on the north east side of the Little Pee Dee River in Horry Dist, SC known as "Land Bluff Ferry". The deed was signed by the following heirs: Willis Huggins, John (x) Huggins, Jeremiah Campbell, Theophilus Campbell, Elizabeth Campbell.
John Huggins died 6 Nov 1848 (Per Simeon Campbell page 29).
Nancy Ann Campbell Huggins died 5 Aug 1856 (Per Simeon Campbell page 29). This date troubled me as I never could find her on the 1850 census, but recently I found her (or so I think) but she is listed incorrectly. She is living with her son Evan Huggins. He is married by this time and has his wife with him. There are two Rouse children with them, and listed last is Ann " 72 making it appear that she is "Ann Rouse", but this is probably Evan's mother Ann Campbell Huggins. I don't know what the connection is with the Rouse family.
(Note: The dates at the end of each line are not part of the original census, but are approximate birth years based on age)

She died 5 Aug 1856. I don't know where John Huggins and Ann Campbell are buried. They are not included on the Campbell Cemetery list as compiled by Simeon Campbell, so they must be buried elsewhere.
Both Simeon Campbell and W.W. Sellers gave an accounting of this family, so we have a pretty good grouping for them. Here is what W.W. Sellers said in his book:
A History of Marion County, South Carolina by W.W. Sellers, Esq. 1902.
Page 263. "... The first known of this family were John Huggins and Willis Huggins, not brothers, but first cousins.* Old John Huggins lived at Huggins' Bridge, on Little Pee Dee; he married a Miss Campbell, sister of Gadi and Theophilus; he raised a considerable family of sons and one daughter- if there were other daughters, the writer never heard of them; the sons were Solomon, Henry, John, Theophilus, George, Enos and Ebben. Solomon Huggins married some one to the writer unknown, and raised a family, of whom I know nothing. Henry Huggins married a Miss Elvington, daughter of old man John Elvington, of whom mention has already been made herein. ... John Huggins, Jr (Jack, as he was called), has already been mentioned in and among the Jones family; his wife was Mary Jones, a sister of our J.T. Jones. Theophilus Huggins and George W. Huggins became Methodist traveling preachers in the South Carolina Conference, and both died therein. George W. Huggins never married, and died young- in Conway or Horry-to which circuit he was then assigned, in 1835. In the minutes of the Conference of 1899, in the chapter entitled "The dead of the South Carolina Conference, 1788 to 1900" George W. Huggins is put down as joining the Conference in 1833; that he died October, 1835 at the age of twenty-seven, and was buried in Horry County. As to the place of his burial, it is a mistake; he was buried at Huggins Bridge, on Little Pee Dee-not more than a hundred yards from the place of his birth. The writer attended his funeral and knows whereof he speaks. Theophilus Huggins continued in the itineracy until his death; he married some one unknown to the writer; think he died in the North Carolina conference. Enos Huggins, a very vigorous and athletic young man, sickened and died when young, unmarried. Dr. Ebben Huggins, a dental surgeon, married and settled in Horry County, just below Gallivants Ferry; he raised a large family-or, rather, had one- he dying before the younger ones were raised. Old John Huggins' daughter Mary (Polly as she was called), married the late Stephen Smith; ..."
The article above contained a great deal more information on some of the children, and several of them were also included in sections on other families.
Simeon Campbell's Diary records this about the family (some punctuation added by me):
Page 29. "Father John Huggins died, Nov the 6th 1848 age in the 80's. his wife Nancy Ann, who was a Campbell, died Aug the 5th 1856- age 81 years. Their children who have died: Rev. George, died in Oct 1835. Rev. Theophilus died Feb the 27th 1850. These two were members of the South Carolina Conference. John C. was a local preacher. He died suddenly May 28th 1864. Solomon died Nov the 29th 1875. Henry died Nov the 27th 1870. Evan died July the 19th 1879. Mary died March the 9th 1881. Stephen Smith, her husband died Nov the 25th 1888. Enos T. Huggins died in 1843."
John Huggins and Nancy Ann Campbell's children are proven by W.W. Sellers book, and by the Diary of Simeon Campbell. The early census records indicate other children, who are unknown so far.
Henry Huggins was born ca 1798/99, presumably in the Huggins Bridge area (Reaves or Hillsboro Township). He married between 1820 and ca 1824 to a Miss Elvington (per Sellers). Her first name is unknown. He was listed on the 1830 and 1840 census in Marion Dist, SC. He was listed on the 1850 census, but his wife had died prior to that, so we can't get her name. Henry was also listed on the 1860 and 1870 census in Marion. Most of the data I have on his family is from the census records (other than what Sellers said about him). Birth and death dates for his daughter Sineath Huggins (1842-1925) is thanks to Ernest Cribb. Henry Huggins died 27 Nov 1870 (per Simeon Campbell). He lived in the Reaves township area.
Solomon Huggins was born 17 Jan 1801 (per Family Bible, thanks to Jo Church Dickerson for the bible record!). Solomon Huggins married Smithy Bryant on 29 Nov 1828 (per Bible). She died 1 June 1857 (per Simeon Campbell and Family Bible). Solomon married 2nd: Susan C. Altman. Solomon Huggins was listed on the 1830 and 1840 census in Marion District. He was listed on the 1850, 1860, and 1870 also. He died 29 Nov 1875 (per Simeon Campbell and per Family Bible). This family is well documented between Solomon Huggins' family bible, the writeup in Sellers' book, and the notes in Simeon Campbell's Diary. Add to that the census records, and you have a very nicely documented family (wish they all left such good records!). Special thanks to Jo Dickerson for sharing the family bible data with me!
John C. Huggins was born 10 May 1803 (source?). He married Mary Jones before 1835. Their family is mostly proven by the census records. I have birth and death dates for John and Mary, but I'm not sure where (or who) I got them from. I know the death dates for them, and several children are recorded in Simeon Campbell's diary. John died "suddenly" on 28 May 1864 (per Simeon Campbell) and Mary died 2 Jan 1910 (same source).
George W. Huggins was born ca 1807/08, presumably in the Huggins Bridge area of Marion Dist, SC. He was a methodist preacher and died in Horry Dist, SC in October 1835 (per Sellers and per Simeon Campbell). He never married.
Unknown Son born 1800/10 was with the family in 1810, but gone by 1820.
Theophilus Huggins was born ca 1800/10. He married Lucy A. Betts on 6 Jul 1837 in Wilmington, New Hanover Co, NC (per Simeon Campbell page 56). He was a methodist preacher, and he died 27 Feb 1850 in Wilmington, NC (per Simeon Campbell). His widow Lucy was listed on the 1850 census in New Hanover Co, NC. She died 7 Jun 1852 (per obituary in the Marion Star). I don't know what became of their children, they may have remained in NC with the Betts family.
Mary Huggins was born ca 1812/13. She married Stephen Smith before 1834. He was listed on the 1840 census in Marion. They were listed on the 1850, 1860, 1870 and 1880 census in Marion (Reaves Township). She died 9 Mar 1881 and he 25 Nov 1888 (both per Simeon Campbell). Stephen Smith is a son of my Aunt Keziah Lane and Samuel Smith.
Enos T. Huggins was born ca 1815/20. He died in 1843 per Simeon Campbell.
Evan Huggins was born 25 Nov 1817 (per his tombstone). He married Susan Elizabeth Powell on 6 Oct 1846 (per Simeon Campbell). They were in Marion for the 1850 census, but moved to Horry before 1860 and remained there. He was a Dental Surgeon (per Sellers). He died in Horry on 19 Jul 1879 and his wife died 24 Jan 1910. They are both buried at the Zion Cemetery in Horry, near Aynor and Gallivants Ferry. I've seen their graves.
Unknown Son born 1810/20 was with the family in 1820, but gone by 1830.
Unknown Son born 1810/20 was with the family in 1820, but gone by 1830.
Unknown Daughter born 1815/20 was not with the family in 1820, but there for 1830 and 1840 census, and gone by 1850.
