Charles G. Collins (c1822) and Ann --- of Marion Co, SC

I (Marty Grant) don't know how I'm related to Charles Collins. I'm sure he is somehow related to my ancestor Jonah Collins (c1774).

Charles G. Collins was born ca 1821/22 in Marion Dist, SC. I don't know what his "G" middle initial stands for. Some records list his initial as "C" instead. I'm not sure which is correct.

He was a son of William S. Collins (c1792), whom he lived next door to in 1850. This is proven by Marion County Equity Roll # 70 which lists Charles as a son of William Collins and Dorothy Eagerton. (Roll # 70, Marion County, South Carolina Extracts from Equity Rolls by Lucille Utley)

Charles would have been about 8 years old by the time of the 1830 census, and sure enough, his mother Dorothy had two boys age 5-9 (born ca 1820/25) with her in 1830, and his father William also had one son that age with him in 1830. (Don't know why his parents were in separate households in 1830).

Charles would have been about 18 years old for the 1840 census, so he should be enumerated in the 15-19 age group, and his parents had three apparent sons that age with them in 1840, one of them was certainly Charles.

Charles married Ann P. --- ca 1840/50, probably close to 1850, as they had only a 3 month old child in 1850. I don't know Ann's maiden name.

Charles Collins and family were listed on the 1850 census in Marion County in very close proximity to several Collins families, including his father William Collins (1792) who was next door.

Charles and family were still in Marion for the 1860 census, listed next door to Richard Collins (c1820), probably a first cousin, and near other Collins families as well, including his father just a few houses away.

For the Civil War, Charles G. Collins, served as a Corporal in Company D, 7th Battalion, South Carolina Reserves ("A History of Marion County, South Carolina", 1902, by W. W. Sellers, Esq, Pages 642-644)

Charles and family were listed on the 1870 census in Marion in Jeffries Township next door to brother Council Evander Collins.
