I (Marty Grant) could be a 1st cousin, 7 times removed to Thomas Cribb. That connection is based on some unproven family links, so it could be wrong.

Thomas Cribb was born 25 Oct 1731 in Craven Co, SC (now either Georgetown, or Marion County). He was baptized on 16 Jan 1731/1732 in Prince Frederick Parish. His birth and baptism and parents names are all recorded in the Prince Frederick Parish records.

Thomas Cribb (1731) is a son of Thomas and Elizabeth (---) Cribb, as proven in the Prince Frederick Parish records.

Thomas Cribb married Ann --- before 1761, for in that year their first child was recorded in the Prince Frederick Parish records.  (They might have had other children born in a different parish prior to this, but their is no evidence of that). I don't know when Ann was born, nor what her maiden name is.

Other than the birth records of 7 children (all recorded in Prince Frederick), I have very little data on Thomas and Ann. By the late 1700's there were several adult men named "Thomas Cribb" in both Marion and Georgetown Districts, and it is very difficult to sort them out in the records.

I believe that both Thomas and Ann were dead before 1790. By the time of the 1790 census, there were no Thomas Cribbs listed in the area, however, there were at least two that should have been listed. I can't say why they are not listed though, just a typical census problem, I guess. Since their children were still in the area, it seems likely that Thomas and Ann had died there, as opposed to having moved away somewhere.

Children

Thomas and Ann (---) Cribb had seven children as proven by the Prince Frederick Parish records. It is possible they had other children, born in Prince George Parish (records were lost), but no direct (or indirect) evidence of that.

Elizabeth Cribb (1761)

Ann Cribb (1763)

Thomas Cribb (1766)

Charity Cribb (1768)

Richard Cribb (1771)

John Cribb (1775)

Francis Cribb (1778)

Elizabeth Cribb was born 26 Jan 1761 in Craven Co, SC (now Georgetown Co, SC) as recorded in the Prince Frederick Parish records.

I have no additional data on Elizabeth Cribb so far.

Ann Cribb was born 13 Nov 1763 in Craven Co, SC (now Georgetown Co, SC) as recorded in the Prince Frederick Parish records.

I have no additional data on Ann Cribb so far.

Thomas Cribb was born 20 May 1766 in Craven Co, SC (now Georgetown Co, SC) as recorded in the Prince Frederick Parish records.

Thomas Cribb was not listed on the 1790 census, though he would have been 24 years old then. His parents were not found in 1790 either, though if they were still living then, he was probably still at home.

Thomas married someone in the 1790's, for he was listed on the 1800 census with a family. He was in Georgetown District, Winyaw County (present Georgetown County), and listed next door to his brother Francis Cribb, and 2 houses from brother John Cribb. He was also next door to John T. Green. There is an older male (born before 1755) living with Thomas, who could easily be his father Thomas Sr, or perhaps his father-in-law instead.

1800 census analysis (based on available evidence): (Explanation of this census)

1800 Georgetown Dist, Winyaw Co, SC pg 756 Thomas Cribb 20011-10100-0-0
Analysis:
1 Male(s) 45 & up (before 1755)	Father? (Thomas Cribb-1731) or Father-in-law?
1 Male(s) 26-44 (1755-1774)	Thomas CRIBB (1766) s/o Thomas & Ann
2 Male(s) 0-9 (1790-1800)	Son? (1794/1800)
					Son? (1790/1800) --> gone by 1810
1 Female(s) 16-25     (1774-1784)	Wife? (1774/84) --> gone by 1810 or 1784/94
1 Female(s) 0-9 (1790-1800)	Daughter? (1790/94)

Thomas Cribb was not listed in Georgetown in 1810, but it looks like he moved over to neighboring Marion District by then. There were already two adult Thomas Cribbs in Marion at that time, Thomas William Cribb (1755/65) and his son Thomas Jr. Thomas William Cribb, however, died in 1810, and was not listed on the census (his widow Elizabeth was head of household), so that left only two Thomas Cribb listings. Thomas Jr was much younger than this Thomas (1766), so he is easily identified, leaving the last Thomas as a good match for Thomas (1766). Thomas Cribb was listed between John Dimery and Elisha Owens. It should be noted that I am not positive that this Thomas in 1810 Marion is the same Thomas from 1800 Georgetown, but they match fairly well, though not perfectly.

1810 census analysis (based on available evidence): (Explanation of this census)

1810 Marion Dist, SC pg 84B Thos Cribb 01001-10200-0-0
Analysis:
1 Male(s) 45 and up (bef 1765)	Thomas CRIBB (1766) s/o Thomas & Ann
1 Male(s) 10-15 (1794-1800)	Son? (1794/1800)
2 Female(s) 16-25 (1784-1794)	Wife? (1774/84)
					Daughter? (1790/94)
1 Female(s) 0-9 (1800-1810)	Daughter? (1800/10)

I did not find Thomas Cribb in 1820, not in Marion nor Georgetown District. There was a Thomas Cribb listed on the 1820 census index for neighboring Columbus County, NC, but I believe that is a different, and younger, Thomas Cribb.

That means that this Thomas had moved away, or died after 1810.

Charity Cribb was born 23 Oct 1768 in Craven Co, SC (now Georgetown Co, SC) as recorded in the Prince Frederick Parish records.

I have no additional data on Charity Cribb so far.

Richard Cribb was born 26 Dec 1771 in Georgetown Co, SC as recorded in the Prince Frederick Parish records.

I did not see Richard Cribb on the 1790 census (he would have been about 18 or 19 then).

On 7 Dec 1797, Richard Cribb (and William Eagerton Jr and Jesse Simons) witnessed a deed from Loftis R. Munnerlin of Georgetown to Jonathan Collins of same place, land on Boggy Branch and Reedy Creek. (Marion Co, SC Deed Book A, page 156, from "Marion County South Carolina Abstracts of Deeds Volume One Books A - E 1800-1811", by Lucille Utley, and Alita White Sutcliffe, 1996)

I did not find Richard Cribb on the 1800 census either.

Richard Cribb married someone in the 1800/10 timeframe. I don't know his wife's name yet.

Richard Cribb was listed on the 1810 census in Georgetown District, SC. Either his enumerations were messed up, or else he had a male and female with him, both over age 45 (born before 1765). This could be his parents (Thomas and Ann, if still living), or his in-laws.  He had no female with him of age to be his wife, so perhaps there are errors on this listing.

1 Female(s) 45 & up (before 1765)	Mother? Wife?

Richard was listed on the 1820 census in Georgetown District also.

1 Female(s) 26-44 (1775-1794)	Wife? (1775/94) * Not in 1810 unless bef 1765"

** Richard was listed on the 1830 census index for Georgetown District, SC, but I don't have the enumerations yet.

** Richard was listed on the 1840 census index for Georgetown District, SC, but I don't have the enumerations yet.

** Richard was listed on the 1850 census index for Georgetown District, SC, but I don't have the enumerations yet.

Obviously, more research is needed on Richard Cribb.

John Cribb was born 1 Jun 1775 in Georgetown Co, SC as recorded in the Prince Frederick Parish records.

I did not find John Cribb on the 1790 census, but since he was only about 15 then, he should have been home with his parents (who were not found at all in 1790).

John Cribb married someone in the 1790/1800 timeframe.

John Cribb was listed on the 1800 census next door to brother Francis and two houses from brother Thomas. He was listed as John "Jr" because of an older John that was also in Georgetown.

1800 census analysis (based on available evidence): (Explanation of this census)

1800 Georgetown Dist, Winyaw Co, SC pg 756 John Cribb Jr 00100-10010-0-0
Analysis:

1 Female(s) 26-44 (1755-1774)	Wife?
1 Female(s) 0-9 (1790-1800)	Daughter?

I did not find this John after 1800. There were other Johns in both Marion and Georgetown, but none seem to match this one in age.

Francis Cribb was born 22 Mar 1778 in Georgetown Co, SC as recorded in the Prince Frederick Parish records.

I did not find Francis Cribb on the 1790 census, but since he was only about 12 then, he should have been home with his parents (who were not found at all in 1790).

Francis Cribb married someone in the 1790/1800 timeframe.

Francis Cribb was listed on the 1800 census next door to brother Thomas and brother John.

1 Female(s) 0-9       (1790-1800)	Daughter? (1790/1800) --> gone by 1810

Francis Cribb was listed on the 1810 census in Georgetown District.

I did not find Francis Cribb on the 1830 or later census records in Georgetown Dist, SC.
