The author (Marty Grant) is not related to Elisha Grant as far as can be determined. Elisha Grant was born ca 1753/54, possibly in NC, or maybe elsewhere. His age may be off by a few years. The 1835 Pensioners census lists him as Elisha Grant, age 76, but it also says he died 23 Jan 1830. Is "76" how old he was when he died, or how old he would have been in 1835? If when he died (which makes more sense) he was born ca 1753/54. This disagrees a little with his 1800 census entry listing him age 26-44 or born between 1755/1774. Elisha Grant served during the Revolutionary War as a Private in the North Carolina Continental Line. He was a pensioner and listed on the 1835 Pensioners census in Wayne Co, NC, though he was already dead then. His Pension file number is S41587. I haven't seen it yet. I feel fairly sure that Elisha Grant is a son of John Grant and Mary of old Dobbs (now Wayne) Co, NC. Elisha Grant was listed on the 1790 census in Wayne Co, NC next to William Grant and Michael Grant. He seemed to be in the same neighborhood as before (in 1790). He was listed between Bennett Jones and Samuel Thomas. The 1800 census shows no apparent wife with Elisha, unless she is the female age 16-25 (born ca 1774/84). I didn't find Elisha Grant on the 1810 census in Wayne Co, NC. There is a Charity Grant who is listed on 1810 in the right area, who is otherwise unidentified. I have a suspicion that this is actually Elisha, but can't be sure. Here is the listing just in case. This person was three houses from Michael grant (listed as "Micajah"). Since Michael's name was wrong on this census, then Elisha's could be wrong too. Perhaps Charity is Elisha's wife. There is a marriage bond dated 8 Jan 1817 in neighboring Duplin Co, NC for Elisha Grant to marry Susanna Gaylord. William Rho was the bondsman. Is this old Elisha or is it the younger man of the same name born ca 1798 who later moved to Kentucky and Missouri? I don't know the answer to that question right now. In Michael Grant's estate papers (1818) Elisha Grant was named as among those with notes (owed money to the deceased). I strongly suspect that Michael and Elisha are brothers. Elisha Grant died 23 Jan 1830 in Wayne Co, NC per his Revolutionary War Pension. Even though he was dead, Elisha Grant was listed on the 1835 Revolutionary War Pensioners census for Wayne Co, NC. He was shown as 76 years old (at time of death?) and a Private in the NC Continental line. His date of death of 23 Jan 1830 was listed. Children of Elisha Grant. I haven't been able to prove any of Elisha's children, though the census indicates he had quite a few, perhaps by two different wives. The following list of children is highly speculative. These may or may not be children of Elisha Grant. Thomas Grant was born ca 1780/84 (per the various census records). He may be a son of Elisha Grant, but I have no strong evidence of that fact.
